Which reminds me, if you are a member of a federally recognized Native American nation, check with your tribal education/ human services office to see if you are eligible for other scholarship or grant opportunities. I've been seeing lots of notices lately from the three tribes with which I'm affiliated.

In the U.P. of Michigan I was able to get 2 years for free at a Native American Community College. If you have 1/4 blood quantum you can attend any 4 year university in the state for free. I wasn't that lucky, but I'm certainly grateful for the free A.S. The NA scholarships are pretty generous, too.

This is great news Sanantone. I am a nurse, and I love what I do. I have done research for many years as well. The American Indian Population is one population that could really use a hand when it comes to ANY resource. The few full blooded American Indians I have met have been lovely people, and my good friend is actually studying Indian herbal medicine. So I think this is a great opportunity for an exchange of knowledge and also a win-win for both the American Indian community and the people that would otherwise have a hard (or impossible) time affording a higher degree in healthcare.
Thanks for this post!
Tara
PS Kay and other's that's pretty cool you have American Indian blood! When I studied the US histories it just broke my heart when I read about the Trail of Tears and how the natives were forced to leave their lands. Geronimo's and Sitting Bulls Story was so sad too. I can't help but think how interesting it would be to meet more American Indian people that have stories and legends passed down to them from generations that go back to before Europeans even landed on the continent. It's mind blowing really.
