sanantone Wrote:With all of those lower level credits, TESU's BSAST in Technical Studies or BSAST in Information Technology will likely be best. Technical Studies is more flexible. A liberal studies degree will require a lower level of math, but many of those LL credits would become useless.
The BSAST in Technical Studies (http://www.tesu.edu/ast/bsast/Technical-Studies.cfm) does look promising for her and seems to make good use of the credits she already has. Can any of the TESU experts figure out what courses she might be lacking for this option? With which courses/exams can she fulfill the "A total of 12 area of study credits must be from 300 or 400 level courses" requirement? I am thinking maybe Cybersecurity and MIS DSSTs and maybe the Network Technology TECEP? Is the Current Trends & Applications the capstone for this major and must it be taken at TESU? Does this count toward the 12 UL hours? Is 12 UL hours all of the UL credits necessary for this degree? (I am used to COSC and their 30 hour requirement.)
Sorry for my ignorance. I am a COSC expert but am pretty clueless about TESU.
Thanks for your input. It is greatly appreciated! She has been at this for a long time and is so excited at the prospect of finishing a bachelors. This would mean a lot to her. As it is, she must work two jobs to make ends meet.
I don't know what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future.
Ideas Wrote:Why 2 TECEP and 1 DSST? Are those (and the 4 Study.com) the only ones she could test out for a BSIT at WGU?
The Network Technology TECEP is the cheapest option for that (I think you could do the CSU-Global, but it's twice the price. The Saylor course is really bad, my husband said that are lots of incorrect answers for the exam.
The Technical Comm TECEP is also half the price of the CSU-Global one.
The MIS DSST could also be gotten through Davar or Ed4Credit. Not sure on the Saylor course/exam, but if it's bad, or won't transfer, then there's no point.

I would have her do some research on the jobs she's interested in, and see whether the BSAST in TS would work. For many jobs, I suspect it will not. But if it will, great.
Current Trends & Apps is the capstone, and it will not count towards the 12cr of UL required in the degree.
The other issue is that you need 21cr in a single discipline, and I'm not sure how they would group her credits.
I would have her apply at TESU for the degree, to see what they give her.
I would also have her apply at WGU.
In the meantime, she could probably sign up for ALEKS and pass Intermediate Algebra and maybe precalc before it expires tomorrow. That's an easy 6cr for $20. She could also take the free Insurance Ethics course. She could do the free TEEX courses.
She might want to try for some of the Saylor computer courses/exams, at $25 each, they might be worth trying.

If she's going to go with TESU, the BSAST in technical studies is a great way to get credit for her.
Sometimes even LL credit from college will come up as UL and in the AOS requirements field, it's strange.
I also would recommend the WGU route as they are currently waiving the application fee.

I forgot about the statistics requirement.

The single discipline would be computer studies. All of my COS, CIS, and CAP credits are thrown in there.

If she transferred the maximum credits for the BSAST (utilizing outside courses and exams to cover what else is lacking) to TESU, can anyone spell out for me the money she would be paying to TESU for the degree? Is there a payment plan available?
Thanks!
I don't know what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future.
It looks like her best bet would be to apply to TESU for the BSAST in TS. Stats will be a big hurdle, but maybe we can find a doable option for that.
Before deciding that the best path is the shortest one, you should have her figure out what degree she needs for the jobs she wants. If she ends up with a degree that won't get her a job, it wasn't worth the money even if it was the least amount.
If she just needs a checkbox degree, that's fine. But if not, she may struggle with that degree.

I agree with you completely, and I will definitely take a step back and let her decide what degree she needs. She doesn't have money to waste on a degree she doesn't need.
Is this the cost to attend TESU assuming a cornerstone and capstone?

No payment plan available. The courses she has left for the BSAST in TS will not cost a lot, maybe $1300 for the inexpensive non-TESU courses. She can pay as she goes there (and do as many free and Saylor courses as possible). If she signs up for Study.com and does at least 2 courses there (maybe American Government and Technical Writing), she will get a waiver on the cornerstone ($300 off) plus a discount on the Residency Waiver ($1800 instead of $2500) plus a discount on the capstone ($1098 instead of $1497).
So the main costs are going to be the capstone for $1098, and the Residency Waiver for $1800. The total cost of the degree should be $4000.
