I just took the English Literature test last week, and passed with a 70. The only studying I did was to skim over a highschool British Lit. book, and to read over the information about the test on this forum.
I dislike modern authors as well, and did fine by reading a little about the ones who are supposed to be mentioned on the test.

That's very good to know! Thanks!

Sorry if this is a late response, but here is my take:
I go to St. Edward's University and they accept portfolios, but it's a big time process. You have to registered with the school, take the 1 hour portfolio class, and then you can protfolio as many courses as you feel. However, the portfolio has to be reviewed by a panel and then awarded credit. And before you ask, yes there are times where they awarded a person 2 credit hours for a typical 3 hour course.
My opinion is to CLEP and DSST any courses you feel slightly comfortable with as many schools will accept them. I would only recommend doing portfolio if you were going to a school and getting a degree specific to a job/talent (i.e. BAAS in Dance).
