perrik Wrote:It all depends on where you're located and who is willing to give tests to the general public! I'll be spending my testing $$$ at a nearby community college which charges a $30 proctoring fee for CLEP, DSST, and ECE (as well as any exams required by another university for a distance learning class). Every nearby test center I've contacted (Maryland suburbs of DC) charges $25 to $35 per test. The lone exception is a Strayer campus, which charges $20 but only administers tests once a week.

"My" test center offers a bright and cheerful building, a suite of rooms dedicated for testing (both paper and computer), handy lockers, helpful staff, convenient hours, tons of close-by free parking, and a Starbucks kiosk downstairs. I'd love to spend less, but c'est la vie.

Hi,
What test center are you using? I use Howard County CC but would love to know if there is one closer. I am in Olney.

My new second home is Howard County CC! If I'd known about the Starbucks kiosk, I might not have even talked with the other nearby test centers. Big Grin

Montgomery College has a very limited test schedule for CLEPS - there are/were three May test dates, two in June, two in July, none in August, one each in Sept-Oct-Nov, and two in December. The test begins at 12:45 pm at their Gaithersburg learning center; you can only take one CLEP per test date (and will probably have to take an entire day off from work). Despite what the DSST site says, Montgomery College does not administer the DSST exams (MC is aware of this listing and has informed Prometric of this error multiple times, but to no avail). MC charges $25 for proctoring.

University of Maryland's University College has a test center, but only CLEP testing is available so I never got around to contacting them. I believe they do Dantes, but only for military personnel (via their Andrews AFB extension).

Frederick CC does CLEP and DSST, and will proctor tests for distance learning courses. I think they were on the high end at $35.

Strayer in Rockville does CLEP/DSST on Friday mornings for a $20 fee. You call on a Monday to register, and you'll take the test on Friday of the following week. When I called for information, the scheduling guy sounded exhausted - a lot of people were using Strayer for testing all of a sudden, and the test dates were all fully booked with a wait list within minutes of the reservation book opening each Monday. It might have calmed down by now, so it could be worth a try.

For the heck of it, I had contacted Mount St Mary College in Frederick, as they were listed as a DSST site. Nope, they send their students to Frederick CC to do the test. I've yet to call UofP's Columbia campus regarding their test center.

In the meantime, I'll just schedule at HCCC.

I have used several test centers and the fees ranged from 0 to $25.00. By far the best I found was DeVry in Illinois. They give DSST's at no charge. They offer very flexible scheduling and the proctor was amazing. They will also be offering CLEP in the near future. If you have a DeVry campus nearby, it may be worth checking Smile

Portland State University for CLEP...$25 (any time during business hours as long as there's space, they are great, highly recommended)

Warner Pacific College for DSST...$30 (in theory, one day a month, but they don't return calls about scheduling -- great big "Boo" there -- so I am looking elsewhere)

I considered Arizona State, since I am making several business trips to the area this summer...$25/hour -- how fast can you test! hilarious

I finished DSST Western Europe Since 1945 in 19 minutes, so an hourly test rate might not be so bad! :p

Arizona State's rate is a flat $25 for CLEP; that hourly rate is for proctoring exams for DL classes. You can test during your business trips after all! I was contemplating seeking a test center in some bucolic nearby area just so I could make a road trip out of it. Only members of this forum would understand...

You should consider Rio Salado College in Tempe. $15 for CLEP, DSST, and proctoring for other courses.

You can walk-in anytime to take CLEP and DSST as long as it's during the scheduled hours Monday-Thursday: 9:00am to 9:00pm and Fridays: 9:00am to 5:00 pm. No weekend times.

JanusthePhoenix Wrote:$28?? Ouch. Both University of Phoenix campuses I went to only charged me $10. Where are you testing?

I paid $50 testing fee for each of my first four tests, only to find out that another school asks only $5/test.
The $5/test school won't take a check, and they throw the money in a desk drawer, probably for buying coffee, possibly for buying beer.

Most schools require two seperate payments, one to them, and the other to DSST. The $28 is just for the test center, you usually pay the $80 DSST fee with a credit card as you sign into the test.
EC - BSLS Finally done!
Went from 86 to 120 credits in six weeks thanks to IC and the forum.
Currently doing MBA pre-reqs.
Now BSLS + 9 credits

I was testing so my focus was elsewhere.....Thanks for all the reply....WHERE IS THIS $5 TESTING.... anywhere near Atlanta, GA. My test center of choice is Strayer.. $20, but I must book my dates a month in advance. this takes some mental adjusting.

This is off topic.......but I am having a hard time starting a new thread...it kept saying that I have to be a member (which I am, and I have also started a thread before), any suggestions?
