I'm sure many of you here are Netflix subscribers so perhaps I won't be the first to praise them but boy the watch-instantly feature has been an incredible study-aid. I've taken five DSST/CLEP exams in the past three weeks (Civil War, World Religions, Vietnam War, Western Europe since 1945, Humanities) and have passed each and everyone with flying colors.
For anyone taking the Civil War DSST: Ken Burns' Civil War series is available for streaming as well as a host of History Channel and PBS Civil War programs. There are dozens of great documentaries on every modern war including Ken Burns' The War, Hearts and Minds, etc. I've been marathoning these films/programs in addition to InstantCert and I've done better than I had even hoped for.

I used Netflix too. They have almost all of the Standard Deviant videos- not for streaming though.

Wow that's good to know.

It's fabulous that you passed with flying colors -- I'm just wondering, was it only Netflix and IstantCert you used? Are you saying that the exclusive combination of those two are enough to easily pass??
Thanks for the great info!

@ Happycamper: Yes, I've pretty much used InstantCert and Netflix videos exclusively. I haven't really used a textbook or other study guide to supplement my learning as its probably unnecessary. Besides, I retain information much better through visual learning and narratives. For the DSST Civil War exam, I listened to Yale's Civil War podcast series, but that's pretty much been it.
As Cookderosa mentioned, there's also a wealth of physical DVD's that are available through Netflix too - I was speaking only of videos i was able to watch immediately through the "watch-instantly" feature which you allows you to watch movies through your computer or TV via your XBox 360, Nintendo Wii, PS3 or Roku box.

Hi. I'm new to the CLEPing business. I'm going to try and take my first one next week, Humanities. What is it that you can watch on Netflix to help with the exam? I'm a little confused. Thanks.

I rented the DVD of Ethan Frome and Mark Twain Tonight.
I watched instantly Long Day's Journey Into Night and Age of Innocence.
I haven't really explored what else there is as I am still studying.
I also listened to books by Librevox on my phone as I exercise. The Awakening, My Antonia, Walden, oh there's tons and tons. I don't think you have to read all the classics to pass, but I find that I become interested in the plotlines and I wanted to experience the stories.
I'll be taking the test maybe next week so I'll let you know if they helped. :-)

Any study aides that you'd recommend for the Western Europe Test. Netflixwise that is?
