I have a question for other EC grads, both who have attended graduation and those that haven't. I'm curious about the graduation regalia. I just received my graduation invitation from EC and it indicated that the cap, gown and hood would be given to me when I checked in for graduation. Did those who attended graduation get to keep your regalia or did you have to return it? If these are included in the graduation fee we pay, then I didn't get mine when I graduated with my AS last year and I won't get one this year for my BS if I can't attend, but I would like to have my cap, gown and hood, so I can use it for graduation at work. I have to dress in full regalia for our graduations each year. Can anyone enlighten me on if this is part of the $495 graduation fee?
Thanks!

The answer is No.
Quote:: Do I need to register to attend Commencement?
A: Yes, registration is required and may be done either online (available March 10- June 18) at or by mail by returning the registration form in the envelope provided in your Commencement packet. Carefully complete all registration information and note that all graduates are required to purchase a cap and gown. You do not need to return the form by mail if you register online.
It looks like you can order a cap and gown through EC, and the form should be in the packet they sent you.
Quote:Q: When will I receive my cap and gown?
A: If you are registered to attend Commencement, you will receive your cap and gown when you check in at the Empire State Convention Center on the day of Commencement. For those who have ordered a cap and gown, but are not attending, you will receive it in the mail following the ceremony.
Q: What will my Excelsior College cap and gown look like?
A: The associate and bachelor’s degree gowns are black, knee length and have long sleeves; the master’s gown is also black, and made with a long, closed sleeve with an arc of a circle appearing near the bottom, and a slit for the arm. The black Oxford or mortarboard-style cap is worn for all degrees.
The most distinctive feature of academic dress is the hood. It varies in length depending on whether the wearer has an associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree. The hoods for all degrees are lined in silk with the academic colors of the institution conferring the degree; for Excelsior degrees, that means purple and gold. The trim on all hoods except the associate degree hood is velvet and the color indicates the degree granted: white for arts and letters; drab for business areas; yellow-gold for science; gold or apricot for nursing; and salmon for health sciences.
In addition, eligible grads may wear cords that indicate membership in an honor society or the achievement of academic honors.
Hmm... those health services people are lucky.... Salmon color hood trim... :ack:
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.
Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully

I won't be attending the ceremony either, but was able to purchase the cap and hood. Since I already had a gown from obtaining my AA. However, the fee for the cap, gown, and hood would have been $50.

Thanks! I didn't receive anything with my graduation packet or my graduation invitation that said anything about purchasing a cap, gown and hood, just that they would be handed out at graduation. I wonder if the quality through EC is any better than the cheezy one I quickly ordered for work. If anyone has ordered through EC what was the quality of the regalia?
