Questions Regarding Post-Degree Credits

None, it protects your privacy. Anything NSC has your school can also do, it's just often the lazy people working there just want you to go to NSC for their convenience. Plus anyone can get your school records at NSC by signing for it using a mouse, nothing is verified and it is extremely easy to be manipulated. You can get last for of SS# DOB on someone, if someone was creative enough it is good enough to steal your entire identity and open a bunch of retail store cards.

Every school I've enrolled in or applied on day one I request a FERPA block. Between NSC and property deeds people have lots of info on someone. You don't want to go through the years of having to clear your identity because someone tried to make a quick buck off of your information.

My neighbor had her roommate borrow a car, the roommate hit someone and skipped town, now my neighbor is on the hook for lots of legal damages and the opposing party found lots of information on her and most likely in very illegal ways. Keep your stuff private. When buying a house for example never put it in your name, you can actually finance traditional loans in a trust and whatever you do, do not name the trust after you. I feel that deeds are as intrusive as the NSC.

Most schools have a form you can fill out and send to them to revoke your directory information. You can find it by doing a search on their website.

I am going to try one. Do you really think the college will contact NSC to delete info?

I'm sure they will but if they don't I'm sure you can monetize through the legal system.

I received an email back from National Student Clearinghouse.:ack: I must pay them to see what they are selling to third party folks on data about me.:puke:

Thank you for your email. To obtain a copy of your enrollment/degree information that is provided to a school requesting it, you will need to place a verification request.

Verification Services are online, Web-based services used to verify degrees, current enrollment, and dates of attendance from participating schools as well as professional certifications and licensure verifications from participating providers/sponsors.

Verifications can be purchased via major credit card at our Web site Welcome to Verification Services. There is a nominal fee associated with each confirmed verification, so please have your credit card handy. To view our Verification Services pricing, go to DegreeVerify and Dates of Attendance Pricing.

To use Verification Services, go to Welcome to Verification Services and click the “Verify Now!” button. The payment information screen will provide the total fee for each verification placed in the order. You may click “cancel” at any time before submitting your credit card information.

You have the option to create an account before you place an order. To do so, click “Create an Account” from the Verification Services menu, provide your personal information, create a username, and (if desired) save your credit card information. Your username and password, which will be emailed to you, will enable you to view the status and results of multiple transactions or orders at a time.

Questions? Go to Help | National Student Clearinghouse and select Verification Services Help.

I called National Student Clearinghouse (1.703.733.4190) last Friday. I talked to Vicky who was very nice.

She said start with your College as they log into the National Student Clearinghouse system to fill with data on you.

Sadly, FERPA rules will NOT block all your information per Vicky. Colleges will tell other college what you have in degrees, dates, etc.:puke:

I at least block all directory info when I login for the first time. It's best to do that whenever applying at a school.
