TESC Statistics?
#1
I'm signing up for TESC in July to finish up the last two years of my degree. Originally, I'd wanted to get a BA in Humanities but I'm considering switching to Psychology. Not because of any specific job field, I just like watching people, studying their behavior, etc. (My parents would also be thrilled to hear that I'm NOT getting an artistic related degree) The only thing that's holding me up...is Statistics. Math and I are not good friends.

I was wondering if anyone has taken a TESC's Stat class(es), what you had to go through, etc.
I can't even fathom the idea that I'm considering a harder math class than basic math. >.O

Have you considered Aleks (stats in beh sciences), Straighterline, Penn Foster, or even your local community college? I don't think it's a good idea to take a subject to which you are not strong in as a possible means for a lowered GPA.

If Psychology is what most interests you, why not also consider BA, Social Sciences. No stats required. You can use up to 18 PSY credits in area of study, TECEP SOC-210, and complete the AOS with DSST Substance Abuse, and CLEP Social Science & History.

Just another option.

BTW, if interested, I still have my notes for epack industrial psychology and TECEP psychology of women.

BA, Social Sciences. 2010. Arnold Fletcher Award.
AAS, Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies. 2011
BSBA, General Management. 2011. Arnold Fletcher Award. Sigma Beta Delta (ΣΒΔWink!

I think the last time I looked at ALEKS, they were undergoing evaluation as to whether or not they'd count for college credit so I'll definitely check that out again. I completely forgot about them...

I hadn't considered Social Sciences (didn't even cross my mind, wow). Will look into that, thank you Smile

It's always nice to know you have options!

Just in case, below is a quick list of PSY options that incl TECEPs and an opt epack course to help take advantage of the Pay Per Credit tution plan. Combine with the other exams mentioned above and you've completed the AOS. You'll only need add 4-5 TECEPs (or courses) within your complete degree plan to meet the residency requirement.

DSST PSY361 Org Behavior, DSST COU262 Fundamentals of Counseling (transfers in as PSY331), TECEP PSY350 Abnormal Psychology, TECEP PSY270 Psychology of Women, DSST PSY211 Lifespan Developmental Psychology, ECE Social Psychology (Excelsior CBE-transfers as PSY370)

Optional: ePack PSY363 Industrial Psychology

Good luck!

You have many options to choose from for statistics: DSST, Straighterline, ALEKS, TECEP, Propero, Sophia Learning, and UExcel ECEP. The bold ones are self-paced. ALEKS would be the cheapest option.

I created a test out plan for social science.
