Quickest route to Bach with lots of transfer credits
#1
I have 101 credits total (this includes in AA degree) that are from 1995 and earlier. Lots of regrets that I didn’t finish. I would like to now. Ideally, I’d love to finish my Bachelor’s degree in psychology and complete a Masters in order to be a therapist, LPC or LCSW. Not sure how feasible the masters is given the intern hours required etc but I definitely want to at least complete my bachelors degree. After my general ed courses, the rest of my credits are psych classes.

Suggestions as to online schools where I’ll get the most transfer credits accepted and that have lower in house credit requirements. Interested especially in ones that allow me to complete credits rapidly.

Thank you.

Hello!

If you fill out the addendum I copied below. It'll help others answer your question.

ADDENDUM:  Please provide as much details as possible (no personal details needed, please be concise, short & simple)

Addendum & Template (answer in brief, compact, concise phrases - don't need long sentences):

Your Location:

Your Age:

What kind of degree do you want?:

Current Regional Accredited Credits:

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits:

Any certifications or military experience?:

Budget:

Commitments:

Dedicated time to study:

Timeline:

Tuition assistance/reimbursement:

Update: In addition to the basic template above... It may be a good idea to expand the information you provide us to include the following, this will provide some insight into your particular situation.  We can either recommend the alternative test-out options COSC, EC (soon to be EU), TESU or competency based education providers such as PUG, UMG (UMASS Global - formerly Brandman), UMPI, WGU or another institution.

Budget: I have a max of $10K saved up.  I'd like to go the cheapest route possible, but will consider spending more for easy and fast.

Commitments: Honestly, just kids/spouse and my pets. I currently work full time and can work on my studies part time or in the evenings/weekends.

Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed during the night or weekends as long as my schedule is free. I estimate at least 3 hours every week night and on the weekends, maybe 6 hours, total would be roughly 15+12=27 hours or slightly more.

Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal.  I would like to finish within 1-1.5 years (12-18 months)

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: Yes, my workplace partners with ABC XYZ university, I get free tuition for undergrad and half off for grad studies!

Please provide any relevant details you may have that may help us determine a option or path for you to investigate, such as your preference towards either test-out (you're a great test taker) or competency based education (because you like assessments, assignments and have test anxiety).  What other details you provide us can help determine your course of action suited for your educational journey...

Reminder, have you completed what is asked for in the template or the addendum? We don't ask for any identifiable info (address, birthday, email, name, SSN, telephone, etc), in fact, most of the time when people provide too much personal info, we remove the details or the attachments that contain these pieces of info. Note: Sometimes people provide a template/addendum answer with not much details.  I can understand the too much personal info part, but I just don't understand the part where you can provide enough decent info for others to help you with.

BJ's Blunt Conclusion: That's all I'm trying to get at, so instead of people picking up pieces of info from you or asking for you to get a better overview/picture of your situation, the more you provide, the better the answers you get. Not only that, ask yourself, you're saving people time by being up front instead of people asking to get one piece of info at a time... You get there easier/faster, plus, it'll take less resources for those who are helping you. So, it's up to you, are you here to help yourself better or delay that help further... You're welcome.

ADDENDUM:  Please provide as much details as possible (no personal details needed, please be concise, short & simple)

Many colleges have limitations on the age of credits that they will accept. I ran into this a lot. UMPI accepted credits from 1993 from me. Excelsior wouldn't accept most of them. UMPI does offer a BA in Psychology would may be a way into a master's program to become a therapist or social worker like you're looking for. Licensing varies from state to state. UMPI is also a CBE program so you're not stuck working 1 or 2 classes during a term or semester. You move through courses at your own pace so you can complete a number of courses quickly.

Hello!

If you fill out the addendum I copied below. It'll help others answer your question.

ADDENDUM: Please provide as much details as possible (no personal details needed, please be concise, short & simple)

Addendum & Template (answer in brief, compact, concise phrases - don't need long sentences):

Your Location: Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas

Your Age: 57

What kind of degree do you want?: BA Psychology is priority, potential masters after that

Current Regional Accredited Credits: I’m not sure what these are

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: none I’m pretty sure

Any certifications or military experience?: no

Budget: cheap but will pay for easier/faster

Commitments: husband in assisted living, children grown, work part time

Dedicated time to study: fairly unlimited

Timeline: faster the better, I will need to resume full time work at some point but trying to take advantage of the time I have now to finish my bachelors

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: none that I know of

I am good with testing out wherever that is a possibility.

I will look at umpi, thank you

I’ve tried to attach a transcript (personal info redacted) but can’t get the attachment to stick so here’s a link that will hopefully work

Thank you for filling this out, very helpful! For the transcript could you please upload it as a Pastebin link (google it, should be first result) because it currently requires permission to see it.

I can help with the info about becoming a therapist. I have several close friends who are LMHC/LMFT. They had many classmates who were over 50 and were changing careers to become therapists. Most programs are 2 years of classes, 1 year of internship, and then the license exam. Then you work as a therapist intern for 2 years but this is just a formality as you are a fully employed therapist who sees their supervisor once a week for 2 years then you are fully independent. There are also 2 year programs but they are very heavy with work load if that's okay.

Your program must be CACREP accredited because they are introducing new reforms to only allow programs under this organization to produce licensed clinicians. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Just wanted to share if you’re willing to get something other than a psychology degree. Look into East Texas A&M (ETAMU), formerly Texas A&M Commerce (TAMUC). For Texas residents their CBE format is only $1,000 per 7 week term and they are super transfer friendly.

They have a general studies degree, which you may be able to take psychology courses and make it work for you.  They also have Organizational Leadership, Healthcare Administration, Human Resources Management , Criminal Justice, City Planning and justice and health.

They are also waiting for the state to approve 3 masters degrees for their CBE format: MS in Organizational Leadership, an MS in public safety and a MEd in Instructional design

With max transfer credits most complete the degree in 2-3 terms.

I changed the permission on the Google doc. Couldn’t get pastebin to work. Doc is a jpeg, no text to copy. Thank you so much for the info.

UMPI looks perfect for me. I’m so bummed I missed the first fall deadline by just a couple days!

The good news is that there is a second fall term! So you can apply now, get your ducks in a row. Take whatever you may need from Sophia to transfer to UMPI. You'll graduate faster the closer to 90 transfer credits you have.

I already applied and requested transcripts. Technically I have 101 credits. Any idea how long it takes them to go through and approve transfer credits? I’ll start as soon as I know what I need to take!

UMPI is very popular and growing because of the YourPace program and they can take a bit for all of the credits to be gone through. When I applied back in 2021, it took over a month. Now, they have probably changed things. It may still take a couple of weeks though. They are a good school. They just have grown extremely busy with the promotion of the YourPace program.

I went a different route when a local community college accepted me and I got into my associates program locally. (It was cheaper for me long term because of state aid.)
