Quote:Identify your college-level knowledge and skills.
First, review your resume and make a list of the following:

  • All full or part-time jobs you have had

  • All independent reading and study you have done

How would I be able to document independent studying and reading in order to get PLA credit? I want to do self-studying for various courses for credit. They also list documenting non-credit courses for PLA credit.

I think that there is a specific PLA course that you have to take that will show you how to document things. You'll also have to write lengthy papers showing why you should be getting credit, AFAIK. It's probably easier to just take the relevant exams (TECEPs/UExcels/SDC exams/etc.) for credit that way.

Every school I've looked at PLA's for seems like quite a bit of work and you don't know how many credits it's worth until it's complete. Lots of long papers with documentation. I could take a bunch of SDC, SL, and Sophia classes in the time it takes to complete a PLA. And there's no guarantee with a PLA that you'll get credit. Lots of risk and not enough reward to me. Your mileage may vary.

There are many more courses available through PLA then through exams or ACE credit, and there are courses I would be interested in gaining credit for which are not a part of it.

Are PLA credits counted as regionally accredited pass/fail credits, and are they transferrable to any other college?

PLA is not typically transferable. Just because there's a category of PLA available is meaningless. 99.9% of us on here couldn't pass a PLA in aviation. Same for insurance and real estate. You do a LOT of work to get PLA credit. A LOT of writing.
