CLEP / DSST alternative testing locations

I'm in the Pittsburgh, PA area and I would like to take some CLEP and DSST exams, but since I am not a student at the schools that host test centers, I am not getting any responses to my email inquiries. The local community college had a testing center, but I believe it closed. Has anyone had any luck taking these exams in the Pittsburgh area? Are there any options from commercial testing centers or online proctors?

Have you tried just calling the testing centers listed by DSST? Iusually just call and ask, some are not listed on the DSST site and some only administer paper test. I have found community colleges that do not advertise that they will administer them but if you call the testing center and ask for someone who knows about CLEP testing they can tell you if they will do it. Not all schools require you to be a student, actually most of the schools I know of do not require it. Also how far are you from OHIO you may find a testing center just over the border.

Or if not Ohio, West Virginia. The following all have CLEP test centers open to the public and are about an hour's drive from Pittsburgh:

^^Great idea! I was going to point out that the CLEP website specifically lists whether a test center is an "open" center or "limited" center (DSST does not offer this breakdown on their website). Authorized CLEP centers will be on this list. With the new IBT version of CLEP (within the past year), all CLEP centers must have transitioned to this newer version or they can no longer administer the exams.

With the DSST test centers, I would recommend checking out their website to see whether it addresses being open to only their students or the general public. This can eliminate some from your call list.

Definitely check out the Cleveland-Akron-Youngstown area in Ohio. Anything in Erie, PA?

I took my DSST exam at strayer in wexford. Nice place.

Do not have to be a student to take CLEPs and DSSTs at Strayer. Call the LRC manager and set up a test date. Show up, take the test, then pay the $20 test fee.

thanks everyone. My degree plan is approved and since i'm so close to finishing, i'm going to hold off on making any changes.
