Let's say I get a 78% (failing at UMPI) and then receive a 90% on my next attempt, do I take a grade penalty? Or will my transcripts show 90% for that class?

Yes, the highest passing grade will show up, your previous failing grade would be dropped off the list as you have to pass the course to continue onward and receive credit for that course.

Study the quiz questions and explanations.
If you get the quiz questions wrong you will get different questions the next time through.
The test questions are different than the quiz questions but similar...understanding and knowing the information in the explanations will help a LOT.
