Second Degree After Liberal Arts Question
#1
Hi Everyone,

I am about to finish Liberal arts Capstone and have taken SOS 110 ( the two required classes at TESU ). I will be graduating. Here is the deal. I am paying the waiver fee. This got me thinking of a second bachelors, as my liberal arts is just what it is, a generic bachelor's with a concentration in Math and Natural Sciences.

All my classes are from actual college credits, besides  1 Sophia, History class.

So I was lurking on the forums and seen people talk about a BSBA? I presume a Bachelor's of Science in Business Admin?

My questions are, out of non TESU classes and using sites like Sophia, Study.com etc can one complete a second bachelor's pretty quick? What would be the classes? Would I have to take another capstone or would the Liberal Arts Capstone be good?

I also seen someone mention a certification from coursera, google, that can use up 9 credits, 2 Upper Division classes ( 6 Credits ), and 1 Lower. I think you need a min. of 24 credit hours for a second bachelors and I am sure a certain number of upper division classes.

Be glad to hear other people's thoughts.

Can't answer all your questions but yes the BSBA degree has its own capstone separate from the lib arts capstone.

Most of the business courses take 20 hours or less to do so that would be around 3-4 months to do the 2nd degree + take the business capstone.

Once you do around 2-3 courses at Sophia, you should be able to estimate the time it will take.

You would need 100 credits for the BSBA and enroll in TESU to take the capstone by Feb 1st in order to graduate in June 2023

@Johnny_Bravo, Welcome to the board, please fill us in on more details by following this link, complete the template and last post addendum.  For now, I would delay graduation until next term at the earliest and reconsider completing 16 credits vs paying the residency waiver.  Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

Copy/paste your academic evaluation either by pdf or screenshot, if you want, you can create a link to your one drive or google drive with that file in as viewable non editable.  Remove your personal details from the pdf, the entire academic evaluation would be best including the "other courses" and "notes" at the bottom.

If you get your 2nd bachelor's AFTER you graduate with your first, the waiver fee must be paid again; so you'd want to get the degrees at the same time.

A second bachelor's requires a minimum of 24 credits that are not in the first, so it's a bit of work. That would include the business capstone. It could be MORE units if you don't have any of the courses needed for the BSBA. If you do have a lot of business courses already, you might be choose to instead add liberal arts courses to displace them in the LA degree to help make up the 24. I'd only do it if you really need the BSBA, or if the required delay is not material to your situation. Have you thought about what concentration you would pursue?

You can log into student services and do a what-if for a BSBA. That would give you a rough idea of how which credits are missing.

With needing to complete an additional 24 credits, you may be better off going for your MBA. There are plenty of MBA programs that are 36 credits. Might be a better use of time and money.

What's your goal? Having a business degree is not necessarily a goal; it's usually a tool that people use to accomplish their goals. However, depending on what your goal is, a bachelor's degree in business from TESU might not be the best tool.
