Special Education/ECE- starting from scratch
#1
Hello everyone! I am basically starting from scratch here. I have a few courses completed via Sophia and I plan on becoming a member to take the rest that I can over there.

I am looking into getting a Special Education or ECE degree, but I don't need the teacher certification. I am a homeschool mom with a child with special needs. After going through what we have been through in terms of finding a tutor that can help her, I have been inspired to go back to school and become what I wish we had for her. With my degree I would probably teach English online via a site like VPK and offer in home tutoring to children children with mild to moderate needs. I have zero plans or desires to teach in a classroom.

With all of that being said I have spent time looking at WGU, but I was curious if there were other options available since I don't need the certification. (It's fine if I have to get it, but I don't NEED to have one) I do qualify for a pell grant so I can use that, however, whatever I decide to do I'd like to transfer in as many classes before starting any official program and I'd rather not have to take out any loans.

The classes I have completed via Sophia are:

Human Biology
Environmental Science
US History 1
Introduction to Philosophy
Introduction to Information Technology
College Readiness
Sociology

Currently Taking:

Statistics
Art History 1

Thanks for any help that you have!

You should look into Walden University...they have a degree for early childhood and the tuition is half off (originally $1500 for 3 mos now $750 ). It's competency-based as well.

I'll just shamelessly copy-paste what I posted on another ECE thread:

For Walden's BS in ECS, it's competency-based learning, and you can transfer in up to 75% of all degree credits. It may or may not be a good fit for you. You could read more here: https://www.waldenu.edu/online-bachelors...o-learning

There's also COSC, but I'm not personally too familiar with it so maybe someone else can jump in: https://www.charteroak.edu/early-childhood-education/

Charter Oak would need 24 RA credits and, AFAIK, there are several classes that can't be tested out of. It may not be the best option for OP.
