I realize that Study.com's Communications 101: Public Speaking is equivalent to only 1 cr towards TESU's COM-209: Public Speaking. Does anyone know if this is "enough" to fulfill the oral communications requirement? I'm under the impression that The Institute's PHI-384 Ethics and the Business Professional only counts 2 cr, yet it is "enough" to fulfill the TESU Ethical leadership requirement, even though it is only 2 cr. Is it wishful thinking that Study.com's 1 cr Public Speaking course would completely check the box for TESU's Oral Communication?
Has anyone found a way to satisfy TESU's ENG-202 Technical Communication, which also fits in the Oral Communication category?
I'm helping my son plan out his degree. I assume he can't apply to TESU yet and get a credit eval since there are still a few state-required classes he needs for high school graduation, and I'm under the impression that he needs to be graduated from high school in order to apply to TESU. He currently has 35 credit hours banked at ACE, mostly using Study.com proctored exams.
Thank you.
I came to this forum researching for my now 17-yr-old son who was earning credits via testing and online courses. He completed TESU's BUS-421 in March 2018, the capstone for the TESU BSBA GM degree. Below are the courses he took:

I am guessing that they will not let you do 1cr and have it count for all 3cr.
I suggest the following:
SL's Intro to Comm - considered the easiest if you have a fear of this subject, as you can spend time recording your speech, until you get it "right"
DSST Public Speaking
Tor's Public Speaking

Thank you. He has a major fear of public speaking. After our Study.com College Accelerator runs out, I'll have him try SL's Intro to Comm. I guess it was wishful thinking that Study.com's course would "check the box" for Oral Communication.

I am holding off on taking that course anywhere because Study.com said on this forum that they are currently working with ACE and schools to get all courses back up to 3 credits. It may not happen, but since I am subscribed to Study.com I will wait as long as possible. I would prefer not to use SL at all as Study.com also said they could possibly add some of the needed business core courses in the future. It may be wishful thinking but to me it is worth it to wait for the confirmation either way. However, if your subscription runs out soon then the answer may not get to you in time.

It might. Contact them and ask before spending additional money on SL or whatever else. They do accept the 2cr CPCU ethics course as meeting the 3cr ethics requirement after all, the missing cr is just moved into electives. They may do the same with the missing 2cr for this course. TESU themselves are the only ones who can answer that question authoritatively.

It certainly can't hurt to have him do the Study.com course (without the exam) and see how it goes. At least it will give him a feel for the course, and he can practice.
I think MOST people have a fear of public speaking. But, the more practice he gets, and the more he starts to feel comfortable doing a speech in front of a camera, the easier it will get. The nice thing is that he's not actually speaking in public for these courses. But he is learning to write a good speech, practice it, film it, and learn all of the things that he needs in order to get good at it. I think that's half the battle. My husband works in sales and talks to people all day every day, for the last 20 years. But when he actually has to stand up and give a presentation to a room full of people, he practices the heck out of it so that he's comfortable with the material - it makes him feel a whole lot better going into it.

Am I allowed to ask TESU the question about the study.com 1 cr speech course meeting the oral communication requirement w/o being enrolled at TESU? Remember, my son still needs a few required high school courses before I can graduate him & apply to TESU (biology, health, economics, and he's working on his English credits via dual-enrollment). Which department at TESU (or who) do I take that request to?
Thank you.

This may sound a little rude, but YOU are an adult right? You're "allowed" to ask anyone any question you like. All you have to do is email them (advising@tesu.edu) with your question. You don't have to mention that you're asking for yourself, your son, or anyone in particular. Just stick to the bare minimum of facts required to provide enough information for them to answer your question.
In other words, "will the study.com course ____________ fulfill the oral communication requirement?"
There's no need to go into any more detail than that.
