I think people will eventually adjust to the new name; it just takes a few years. Excelsior used to be Regents. Texas State University used to be Southwest Texas State University. I haven't heard anyone call it Southwest in 20 years. Texas A&M - Commerce used to be East Texas State University from the 1960s to the 1990s.
I just don't understand how being called East Texas State University is beneficial. It eliminates confusion, but institutions usually like to benefit from the confusion.
