Newbie Tecep questions
#1
I want to start with one of the electives to get an understanding of the tecep and the process...did a forum search for tecep and kept seeing something on saylor pop up.

Personal and Social Responsibility Elective
World History from 1600 to Present (HIS-126) This is only offered as a TECEP exam
Introduction to Comparative Politics (POS-282) This is only offered as a TECEP exam
Psychology of Women (PSY-270) This is only offered as a TECEP exam
Marriage and the Family (SOC-210) This is also offered as a TECEP exam
Environmental Ethics (ETH-210) This is only offered as a TECEP exam

my questions are:
1: is there a central location to discuss teceps?
2: instantcert is not geared at tecep material and there is only a few teceps on there correct? (I looked at there site)
3. from my list of tecep elective aboves is there an easier than another or is easier relative to the person and their background taking the exam?
4. I was under impression MC was the way to go but it seems that having some essays people like because it can give leeway in terms of passing the exams?
5. I know which 5 I MUST take to satisfy the courses that I am missing but then I will need 3 more, is there a strategy to the 3 other teceps that I am going to take to either maximize gpa or replace bad grades on current transcript? I have enc1101 and enc1102 already completed for example but they are credits don't have a grade associated to them...would it make sense to do those teceps again since i would just be swapping credit for credit?
6. last and probably most important I kept stumbling across SAYLOR. for ETH-210 it references SAYLOR and ive seen it on the site...are they a free resource that when the tecep corresponds to that free material I should try to use that resource or are tecep materials relatively inexpensive that I should go for tests that are easier and more appealing to my eye?

1. No. They can be anywhere. Best why to find a thread on a specific exam is to use google and search the forum name, TECEP, and the exam name.

2. Only 3 on IC, but one of them is Strategic Management (capstone for the BSBA) and another is Into to PR (considered one of the easier TECEPs)

3. World History from 1600 to Present (HIS-126) ---> I looked into it, but found that it covered a large amount of material
Introduction to Comparative Politics (POS-282) ---> Considered taking this one. I have an interest in politics and world affairs, so thought I might already know a lot of the material.
Marriage and the Family (SOC-210) ---> I recently passed this one, but it was just revised. Went from 60 passing and all MC, to 70 with MC and short Essays.
Environmental Ethics (ETH-210) ---> Based off of Saylor course. Some discussion of it here. Got the impression that it might be a harder exam.

4. Depends on your experience and previous knowledge. I studied for Marriage and Family more than the other 3. Eng Comp I actually ended up being pretty easy because of my background.

5. I need 4 for requirements and another 4 for residency. This was my logic: Intro to Comp --> I have years of experience. Easy pass. Lib Arts Math --> I have taken multiple math courses including Calc III and Stats. Hoping to pass with minimal study. Technical Writing --> Eng Comp I was easy for me and I work in a technical field, so I figured this should be easy too. Nutrition --> Rep is not necessarily easy, but not hard either and I would like to learn more about nutrition. Take a look at bricabra's signature for a link to a discussion about strategies for picking TECEPs.

6. go for the easier and more appealing ones. I have looked at the saylor material and it just looks like to much work.

For what it's worth, I've taken six TECEPs recently (only Stats TECEP is left, yargh), and here's how I would rank them in order from least difficult to most:

Psych of Women (this was incredibly easy even with the new essay sections)
Eng Comp II
Tech Writing (although, I actually scored better on this than Eng Comp II)
Marriage and the Family (version before the required essays, though)
World History 1600 - Present (it's just so much information to remember)
Environmental Ethics (interesting material, but if you don't have to take it to meet a requirement, skip it. It's tough.)
