Traditional College Flack
#41
im 20 right now and by the end of 2012 I should have well over 90 credits towards my bachelors.

CLEPS and DSSTS definetly saved me.

Ive joined the military at 17 with parental consent and I never went to a traditional college yet. Just online and CLEPS.

Its a good feeling knowing im not far behind my highschool graduating class
CLEPS passed:
Analyzing and Interpereting literature 55
Intro to sociology 54

DSSTS passed:
Principles of supervision 424
Intro to business 404
Intro to computing 421
Lifespan developmental psychology 52
Technical Writing 48
Organizational Behavior 55
Envionment and humanity: 60

Although I am going the (mostly) testing route, I can honestly say that I wish that I had attended a brick & mortar school out of high school. There are obvious advantages to doing so but since I didn't and I am much older than 18, this is the fastest, cheapest and most effective way of checking a box - getting the college degree. I have no intention of debating my degree with anyone as, for me, it was appropriate. For others, maybe their life situation allowed them different opportunities. Good for them. At my career stage, I don't gain any more from one over the other. If I were 18, then I don't know that I could make that argument other than saying that I could gain a year or so on my classmates by taking CLEP's of the freshmen year classes. For those just starting out - late teens or early twenties without the advantage of work history, I think that a traditional degree may serve them better. For old dogs like me - it really doesn't matter where it comes from as long is it is RA.

If I had it to do over again, I'd attend a brick and mortar and do CLEPs to supplement and take care of general education requirements.
The first year or two of college is cool. Then it gets a little old struggling for parking etc. At least thats my experience as a commuter trying to pay bills and learn at the same time while making < $10 per hour.
