UMPI degree in BABA (or anything BA with Masters option down the road)

(01-07-2022, 10:10 AM)uncoolbilly Wrote: Thanks, That is is the plan...

Sophia courses I have planned and the requirement they fill.

Microeconomics - 2nd half of my Macroeconomics
US History I - GE 5B requirement
Env Science - GE 3D requirement (Because we are not sure AST-101 will fill the need).
Conflict Resolution - BUS-210 (would this meet the PCJ-215 requirement? instead of Comm at work? Comm at Work has a touchstone and Conflict Resolution does not).

Conflict Resolution is a LL Business elective not BUS210 or PCJ215.

It takes maybe 10-15 minutes and needs no citations. If you did that one first, it'll probably be done and graded by the time you finish your second Sophia course.

Conflict Resolution is a 100 level Business elective. It does not fill the business communications requirement.

No the degree plans are not flexible. Every BABA has the same core requirements. Then there's concentration requirements. There's also the GEC requirements.

Where is the Fundamentals of Stats class from? The Legal Environment of Business class? Currently Communications at Work from Sophia comes in as a 100 level Communications course. Your Study.com plan needs work. You need to make sure the courses will transfer for what you want. The 106 Human Resource Management course is a 100 level Business elective not HRM. You need the 306 version. Also keep in mind that you need to complete the majority of your UL courses at UMPI.

The spreadsheet is a bit hard to follow. It's best to do it with the UMPI requirements with the names of the courses then what you have to fill it - from where.

Was the legal environment class a business law class? I wouldn't plan on it transferring in as BUS353. This class at UMPi has a great deal of ethics involved.

I have added a notes area and an explanation of the color codes.

Correct the "white" classes are the ones from South Sub College.
Pink are only offered at UMPI
Teal is UMPI or InstantCert
Coral is UMPI or Study.com
Yellow are only offered Sophia.com

I used this UMPI BLS reference for courses - https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UM...egree_Plan
And @ashkir plan found here - https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...-for-3-222

"Conflict Resolution" was a question as it is on the UMPI BLS as fulling 1C in GE but that degree used "COMM at Work" for PCJ-215 - I decided to do just "COMM at Work" (I started this class on Sophia on Friday last week).

@sst20ts - great catch on the Bus-306 study.com class... I adjusted that in the plan - THANK YOU!!!

The BLW-201 class was a business law class at South Sub College (community College) @Rachel83az THOUGHT it MIGHT transfer as BUS-353 so it was entered there. I don't see anyplace else to take BUB-353 besides UMPI so I should know only the credit review is done if I'll have to take it at UMPI.

This is the biggest issue with the UMPI degree's for me... TESU would do a credit review and allow me to take courses outside their classrooms to fill in with out issue. UMPI seems to want students to only transfer in what they have currently and once accepted to take everything else needed at UMPI (or it seems that way from this forum).

It makes it very difficult to plan things out from a budget and course standpoint...

UMPI does allow you to bring in outside courses after you're enrolled, but you need permission to do so. It sounds like the "permission" is USUALLY just a formality, but you still need to ask. And it might be a bit frustrating, but it is at least better than WGU that won't let you transfer in courses AT ALL once you've started. Thankfully, we do at least have a pretty good idea of what will work where from Study.com and Sophia. When ashkir and ss20ts started at UMPI, none of us had any clue! Fortunately, ashkir had taken almost everything that Sophia had to offer at the time, so we were able to learn from that. We also learned from his pain that the science-with-a-lab is best NOT taken at UMPI, lol

I get it. I was the first person on the forum to give UMPI a try. There was nothing on here for me to go by. Nothing. Most colleges don't review your credits and tell you what to take elsewhere. TESU doesn't really do that either. They will give you an evaluation as part of your application. They're assuming that you're going to enroll with them. They do not tell you what to take anywhere else.

At UMPI you can apply and defer your enrollment and continue to take classes elsewhere. The application is free. Once you enroll you need written permission from your academic advisor to transfer in additional courses. Most schools don't let you transfer in additional coursework once you're enrolled. TESU isn't a regular university. UMPI is a regular university. They have a campus - an actual campus with hundreds of students living there and about 1400 students. TESU doesn't have that at all.

You should check ashkir's latest thread on transferring credit to UMPI. There were some changes to Sophia. I think Communication at Work was changed. Definitely double check that.

BUS353 isn't a class you can take elsewhere. Several classes are like this. I would focus on getting the GEC completed except for English Comp and LL courses. Save the UL for UMPI. Some of your previous college courses will transfer in as general electives. Those need to be completed as well. Don't stress! You'll probably end up with over 120 credits. That's pretty common.

This is very stressful though... I understand UMPI won't tell me what classes to take elsewhere, though I went though SSC because Purdue explained my GE credit choices at SSC and IvyTech (the other local community college).

I am limited on funds and time for this project (same reason my AA at South Suburban college took 17 years to complete). Being able to complete classes that will transfer is a key part for me... While I know I won't get 100% of classes to transfer, it's important to get as many as I can without having to buy additional months from Sophia or spending additional time/money on Study.com...

At SSC I wasted 1 year and about $300 on classes that were no longer part of the degree I was working on as the requirement changed... but the software didn't update my web portal - giving me the option to take a AA instead of the AAS in Marketing that I started going to school for in the first place (AKA half my classes were wrong for the goal).

I am grateful for the time and effort everyone has put in to figuring this out with me... I just wish the schools spent this much time helping the people looking to go to their schools.

We've been telling you what you need to take outside of UMPI. We cannot tell you for sure that classes you've completed at other colleges will definitely transfer to UMPI or how they will transfer. Like I said, you CAN apply now and send your transcripts. Then defer your enrollment. You can't start until March anyway so you have time to get more classes completed. The schools do spend time helping the students that are paying them. They can't do that for free. The staff has to be paid and focus on the students paying them. You've got a ton of resources on here between me, ashkir, and the other graduates. I updated a ton of ACE credits this week on here and how UMPI is accepting some new courses and changes that have been made. Ashkir has posted as well. There are no guarantees and no one is locked into a degree plan until they are enrolled. The degree and transfer credits can change at any moment until then. This is why I say apply and delay your enrollment. Get whatever you can done on Sophia, InstantCert, and Study.com until the session begins in March. You can't apply and begin in the January session so you've got time to get this done. It won't take as long as you think. Sophia classes are really easy. Nothing like on campus college courses. You may be over thinking this. We've all done. We've all spent hours and hours researching and reviewing. Things do change so it's important to get the ACE courses done and get your booty enrolled. We've seen changes have huge impacts on students and there's usually not a lot of notice that changes are brewing. Best to get started and not spend hours and hours researching courses. Follow someone's degree plan and get started.

Kewl... I have started the @Ashkir plan (this was the basis for the plan I created based on my current classes). I have applied to UMPI and will talk with one of their staff to delay enrollment.

I started Sophia for the classes in my plan (I don't think any of those were questioned) and will start to tackle the InstantCert classes next, Then Study.com.

@ss20ts - I see you're doing a BABA-MC. I assume most of the plan you have has classes that you took during your BLS... Are you taking misc. classes at UMPI to meet the 10 class requirement for the second degree? Reason for the question is, if I have most of the UL classes from study.com leaving 7 courses for UMPI - can I take electives for the remaining 3 required UMPI or will they have to be from the concentration?

Thanks again... I have started so I can this this completed, now it's just tuning things as I go.

Most of your UL credits need to be taken at UMPI. If you take 3 UL classes at SDC and then 7 at UMPI, that should be fine as far as your UL requirements are concerned.
