WGU Academy's online courses are ACE credit recommended!
#1
Hello guys,

I just talked to WGU Academy's advisor and he said their courses are ACE credit recommended!
I asked them to list WGU Academy's courses and profile on ACE website.
Let's wait and see what happens... Wink

They are ACE recommended through StraighterLine. If you read the WGU Academy page, they all appear to be SL courses (except the IT exam ones).

The IT exam ones are on SL as well and are ACE recommended, it's just that the course titles listed on ACE don't exactly match the ones listed on SL.

It's all StraighterLine. I would jus take the courses through StraighterLine. No need to involve WGU in it.

It would be cheaper through WGU academy if one were to finish multiple courses per month. Also, WGU Acad would provide a voucher for one IT cert included in the price. That said, you would have to participate in their "PACA" course and I don't know if there would be some extra hoops to jump through or not. I summarized it a bit here:

In theory: yes. At least that's what I was led to believe when I conversed with one of their representatives. Of course I recommend you double check with them in case things have changed since then.

That's cool!

That makes WGU Academy cheaper than Study.com ($199).
So once you complete WGU Academy course, do you get ACE credits from Straighterline ?

Well, you can only take one of the certification exams on WGU's dime. So if you need COMPTIA and an MTA exam then they'll only pay for one. If you're transferring to WGU anyway, that's not a big deal since I think they'll pay for other certification(s) once you're a fully matriculated. If you're taking these for transfer to one of the big 3 then that's just something to be aware of. And Precalculus doesn't transfer anywhere but WGU, unfortunately.

As for the others, English Comp, US History, Sociology, Statistics, (possibly) Biology, and Psychology can be taken at Sophia for even less.

That leaves Communications, Chem I, and American Government. Maybe Biology (I'm not sure how SL biology compares to Sophia "human biology" when it comes to transfers). 3 classes for $150 isn't bad at all. 4 (if you count Biology) is great. It's even better if you throw one of the tech certificates into the mix.

However, apparently your WGU advisor will call you every week to check up on you while you're attending WGU Academy classes. I dislike that very strongly, but I know some people don't care.
