What Classes Do I need For Excelsior BS Degree??

Hello,
I am in the Air Force stationed in England. I have 94 credits and an associate’s degree in Aviation Maintenance through CCAF (Community College of the Air Force). While some of these credits won't cross over to Excelsior, many will. I have contacted Excelsior and talked to a councilor to request a class list of EXACLTLY what I needed to take to finish a BS degree. As one may surmise from my user name, I really don't care what the degree is in (key words are "easiest degree"). It is a tool to open a door and nothing more. A basket weaving degree would work, should they offer one. I told the councilor this and expected a lot more help than they gave.

This is my question, (finally) is there anywhere I can get an exact list of what is required for a BS degree through Excelsior so I can CLEP, DDTS or ECE them? I want to spend as little time in a classroom as possible as I have a family and work 12 hours a day. After reading on this forum, I'm sure there are some of you out there who can give me guidance. Your help is most appreciated. Lee

You MUST confirm everything with Excelsior.

But here is a preliminary breakdown for you:

Excelsior: BS General Business Degree (120 Credits Minimum):

Prerequisites

1 Information Literacy (ECE)
3 Written English Requirement (TECEP or ECE)
3 College Algebra (CLEP College Algebra or above)
3 Ethics (DANTES [lower level] or ECE [upper level])
3 Macroeconomics (CLEP)
3 Microeconomics (CLEP)
3 Statistics (DANTES or ECE)

Business Component - 45 Credits Required.
(All courses used to fulfill core requirements are considered Lower Level)

3 Financial Accounting (CLEP Principles of Accounting)
3 Managerial Accounting (CLEP Principles of Accounting)
3 Business Law (CLEP Intro to Business Law)
3 Computers (CLEP Info Sys, or DANTES Intro to Computing)
3 Management (CLEP)
3 Marketing (CLEP)
3 Financial Management (DANTES Principles of Finance)
3 Operations/Production Management (TECEP)
3 Business Policy (TECEP)
3 Organizational Behavior (DANTES or ECE)
X Business Electives (12 must be upper level)

Additional Minimum Requirements

At least 60 Total Arts & Sciences...to include at least:
9 Humanities (not counting Ethics or WER)

Depth Requirements

2 Depth Areas from either Arts & Sciences or Applied Professional
A depth = 12 credits in one area (including at least 3 Upper Level credits)
(Eg, History, Psychology, Sociology, Business, etc.)

Additional Minimum Requirements

At least 60 Total Arts & Sciences (21 Upper Level)
Up to 60 Applied Professional (9 Upper Level)

At least 9 credits in any two areas below, plus 6 in any third area:
- Humanities (not counting WER)
- Social Science/History
- Natural Science/Math

You probably already know this but you can register on Excelsior's website even if you are not enrolled there. Then you can search out all kinds of information. http://www.excelsiorcollege.com But you may not need to with all the great info that Snazz provided.

Thanks, I already registered at their website and started their programs. I'm trying to get 90% of this done, then enroll, so I only have to pay their annual fee once; they recommended I do it this way. They were helpful, but they didn't spell it out like you all did. Now I have direction and can start busting these out. I just don't want to waste time knocking out classes I don't need. I'll post as I progress and throw out what worked for me and hints for the test (is there a limit to what can be put out? I don't want to violate some social order here). The more feedback and advice people post, the more useful this board will be for all of us. You can tell us as much or as little as you like. Every little bit helps.

Benefit from the input of others on exams you haven't taken yet, and then pay it forward by providing your own input once you have taken an exam.

Short of reproducing EXACT questions and answers from a specific exam, pretty much anything goes!

You could tell us things like:

- What you used to study.
- How long you studied.
- Whether your study materials were sufficient.
- Which materials were better than others.
- What score you got.
- Areas you would recommend people focus on.
- Anything that caught you by surprise on your exam.
- Tricky items to watch out for.
Etc.

You can be certain that ANY feedback you provide will be very much appreciated.

I am also getting as much of my degree done as possible, prior to actually enrolling at Excelsior. I think many people here are doing the same thing. Most of your general education requirements and electives can be completed with relative safety prior to enrollment.

If in doubt, ask on the board. Somebody will probably be able to help you. But remember that ONLY Excelsior can give you an absolutely definitive answer.

I just wanted to let you know, that there is no annual fee for military, as long as you enroll in the military option. They will also evaluate your credits as many times as you want. The only cost to you is the $175.00 one time enrolment fee and the $175.00 graduation fee. The military option is a total of 4 classes taken with Excelsior, one of which can be Information Literacy (INL102). Even if you don’t select the military option, your active duty status should exempt you from the annual fee.
As you already know, CLEP/DSST/ECE Exams are also free as long as you take them at a military college office (Navy College for me). Once you receive your passing score from any test you complete, you can have them submitted to your Excelsior Transcript for free.
This is how it works for the Navy, I don't see why it would be any different for the AF.

Hi Lee,

Snazzlefrag's comments are dead on for the majors. If you want to go ahead and post which 94 credits you already have maybe we'll be able to help you determine what's left. The BS in Liberal Studies seems to be the most flexible degree program. In a way that can make it the easiest, but at the same time you also have a little less direction until you have an advisor.

It's nice to see that some of you are able to get so many tests in prior to enrolling. I enrolled before taking a single test (I did have transfer credit and certifications for credit) because I knew it was the only way to prevent myself from procrastinating to much.

what snazzlefrag outlined below is what you need. It is the easiest and fastest way to get a BS degree from excelsior. You can also go to bain4weeks.com and see a list of test that person took to get the exact same degree. You can clep, dante, and ECE the whole degree and transfer most of your credits that you have already.

You can find a list of the clep and ECE, dantes courses here. Many people have already taken these test and there are study tips available on almost all of them. You can take a week to study for an exam and then go and get it done. You will have your degree in no time using these methods. That is what most people here are doing. It is a great resource for all the exams that you need.
