IDK if its just me, but Macs after only a few years become increasingly difficult to daily without bootcamping Windows OS since Mac OS is so highly dependent on its app ecosystem. Granted, I do use my 1999 Mac G3 for shits and giggles, a 2011 MacBook with Windows 7 (god bless Windows 7) and I do use every now and then a 27inch 2019 iMac. I sure do miss intel-based Macs
I'm sure it's not just you, but it isn't me. I do some video, and Macs are well known for being fine for that. Most of the rest of what I do is in a browser window, and for that any stable system will do. Occasionally I use LibreOffice, Obsidian, or GitHub Desktop, all of which run fine on an old Mac.
That said, the last version of MacOS it can run is getting pretty old. I used to have Linux on it (MacOS pissed me off when they dropped their 32-bit subsystem out of the blue so I switched for a few years) and eventually I'll probably have to go back to it. (Linux Mint, of course, so you'd love it!)
I have an 8 year old MacBook Pro. That thing is a beast. It works perfectly. I have to use a Windows laptop for work, and have gone through several of those in the same amount of time. I got my MacBook because I was tired of having to get a new laptop every two years. And Windows 8 sent me over the edge. That dang thing never worked right. If/when my MacBook Pro dies, I would definitely consider getting another one and hope to have the same luck with it.
