I friend of mine just sent me a pic of her ALEKS math book!? I never knew one existed. Apparently, they have a bunch of them. This might be helpful to some who want more than the online lesson. HE Math/Statistics - Textbook Integration

ALEKS is related to, maybe owned by, McGraw-Hill. I was looking through one of their accounting text books and it integrated heavily with the accounting portions of ALEKS.

Yes, it is. Aleks is actually advertised in the texts as one of the available mathlab programs. When I attended MCC they used the Aleks software.
The publishers also has a free math tutorial website. The textbooks listed are all featured at www.interactmath.com

Do we know if this has been the case since day 1? I'm a bit foggy, but I seem to recall ALEKS just being 2 guys who invented the software, I guess they sold the company? I hope they're enjoying big piles of cash.

They must have made a mint. When I subbed in SC all middle school students had an IPad and were expected to finish at least 10 topics a week on ALEKS, teachers monitored and it was part of math grade. That alone has to be worth a lot. I never did see or hear of any textbooks for ALEKS at least one teachers addition in the class might have been nice.

And all our community colleges in NC use ALEKS for alllll of the developmental maths. Every level- it's no longer taught by a teacher, rather you go to campus and use a campus computer to work on your pie.

I can't speak to when the relationship began but I was introduced to the software in 2005 at MCC. It was here on the forum that I found out about the ability to earn ACE credit in 2009.
The gentlemen who created the program are doing quite well; they captured and are dominating a niche market. I would guess it is probably a joint venture between Aleks and the publishers. I have noticed over the years the company/website grow exponentially.
@Lindagerr, I checked the link. The texts were not created specifically for the Aleks program, it is actually Aleks recommending texts published by McGraw-Hill and others listed. Aleks recommends their textbooks and they in turn advertise the Aleks tutorial program in the texts they publish. This is the impression I'm getting from what I've seen on both websites and the textbooks.

This actually kind of awesome. So the textbooks aren't written specifically FOR Aleks but they can be used with it?

Yes. It's no different than CLEP/DSST providing a list of recommended texts on the factsheets.
Follow the link Cook provided in her post to List of Integrated Textbooks by Course. There is a button for the PDF printout or you can click on the subheadings and note the books/authors. Now go to interactmath.com and click on the scroll down box...list look familiar?
When I decided to use Aleks courses, I researched texts listed on the interactmath website. Amazon is great for customer feedback! I then purchased 1 or 2 of the recommended texts in each subject and supplemented the text with the tutorial software. Also used a few other online sites when necessary. It made Aleks a very pleasant experience for me!
