Hi,

I've been reading that some people were able to have this one credit course listed as a general education credit rather than a free elective at TESC.

Can anybody tell me how to do that? Do I just send the NFA transcript like FEMA or do I have to have the course transcribed a different way?

Thank you Smile

Ok so I read in another thread that you transfer the class through ACE but how can I make sure it is applied as a general education credit and not free elective?

Do you have a link to the post where you read this information?

I have read that one of the FEMA courses counts as Gen Ed, but not an NFA course. I'd like to know more about this. Thanks.

im just wondering how this person challenged it. I would really like to use it as a general education credit

Would you be able to tell me which FEMA might be considered for credit other than free elective.

Thank you Smile

If I remember correctly from other posts, it is just this one FEMA that counts as Gen Ed in Humanities at EC:

IS-242 Effective Communication [Note: This may duplicate public speaking credits.]

Be sure to double-check, if this will count similarly at TESC too.

Also, please let us know more about the challenge process when you try it.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, but I'd like to use NFA Q318 as the last General Ed elective credit to graduate from TESC. The other thread clearly says emichele20 appealed, but I wonder if anyone can share the course description they sent in with their appeal and tell whether they sent it to an advisor or directly to Dr. Keel.

Any detail that keeps me from scrambling for an additional "last" credit would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sandy

Hi Sandy,

I replied to you but I wanted to give this to anyone else just in case they needed it:

Q318
Fire Service Supervision: Self Study (Q318)
Credit Recommendation: In the vocational or lower division
baccalaureate/associate category, 1 semester hour in Personnel or Human
Resources Management, Business or Public Administration, Behavioral Science,
Fire Science, Fire Administration, Law Enforcement, or Criminal Justice
(7/03) (12/08).

I sent this directly to an advisor letting them know that I reviewed everything and noticed that some of my courses were questionable. It was changed by the end of the week.

Well, it took a bit of back and forth with transcript delays and TESC's site being down, but NFA Q318 is finally on my transcript as SOS-199 under General Education Electives.

I sent the ACE course eval and pointed out that the content was similar to SOS-320, The Management of Stress and Tension. Within four days, it had been updated. Celeste Winn is the advisor who helped me.

It is amazing that in the last year, TESC evaluation staff have changed so many of their standard evaluations. For years and years, Q-318 would be transcripted as FIS-461 Advanced Fire Administration.

For me, upper level credit was far more important than general ed credits, but to each their own!

Good luck out there.......

I agree about how interesting it is that the course designations change over time.

Everything else was complete, I had applied for graduation, but they came back with "need one more credit", and I needed to be finished to apply for a job requiring a bachelor's degree. Of all the options, it was (for me) the quickest and the least hassle. Had it not come in as a Gen Ed, I guess I'd be trying out KCTCS right about now. Smile
