The bigger issue to me is that the Army still does not have its own community college system like the Air Force. PME/NCOES can give some leadership or elective credit, but it still does not create a very clear degree path.

I really wish I had known earlier how flexible schools like TESU could be with military/JST credit, especially with programs like the AAS in Military Technology Leadership or Applied Electronic Studies.

I have tried to help make this kind of information more available to junior Soldiers, because knowing these options early can save a lot of unnecessary time, money, and starting over

A lot of schools may be flexible with JSTs as many of the Tech schools/AIT/Specialty schools can come over as ACE credits. This isn't TESU specific. The one benefit of TESU is that many of the credits add towards the 114 (?) credit transfer limit that is allowed, thus requiring individuals to only complete the cornerstone and capstone requirements. Many schools will take JSTs as just gen eds. It'd be cool if many of the active duty individuals took advantage of the active duty TA (which still kind of sucks as its limited to $4,500 a year which equates to only a couple of classes a year depending on where you go) and guardsmen knowing about their tuition waivers. AGR is the golden ticket to both worlds (I've never used AD tuition assistance as it was never worth my time) since I can use both AD TA and state waivers. This is why I say that the guard is one of the best things that Soldiers/Airmen can join, plus the benefit of 100% GI Bill. Only down side (if you consider it) is competition for AGR slots.

Active duty from day 1 should take advantage of TA and just do everything from an Associate up to the allotted Masters (again, kind of sucks that AD is only allowed to complete up to a masters, but it's technically free).

RE: SEJPME I AND II - Phracker Jacks - 09-25-2026

I was trying not to make my last post too long and sidetrack the thread. I was not saying TESU is the only school that accepts JST/ACE military credit either. A lot of schools will accept it; my point was that TESU is one of the few I have found where a large amount of that credit can actually be made useful toward a degree instead of just ending up as unused electives. Excelsior may be another good example depending on the program.

A lot of my own issues came from things I simply did not understand when I first started college — NA vs. RA accreditation, semester hours vs. quarter hours, how transfer credit worked, and how differently schools could apply the exact same military or college coursework. I also had years of starting and stopping because of deployments, PCS moves, training, and military schedules.

I definitely agree that Soldiers should use TA when they can, although even that was not always easy to work around. There were times I even paid out of pocket just to keep some momentum.

One other frustration I have always had is how Gen Ed-heavy many degrees are, especially technical degrees. I am glad there are much cheaper and more flexible alternative-credit options now to get those requirements done, but they can still feel like a waste of time when what I really want to be studying is electronics, networking, or computer science. I would rather see more of that degree space used for practical or technical coursework directly related to the field.

Anyway, this has gotten a little off topic. I am still mainly curious whether anyone has seen any other transfer outcomes for EJPME I or II at TESU, Excelsior, or another school beyond the examples already posted here.
