Saylor.org direct credit to TESU - Trying2BSuperwoman - 09-07-2018

Good morning all!

I'm a new user here and I find this forum to be so wonderful. I would like to obtain a degree at TESU, with a BA in Psychology. I love the idea of testing out at home, and with Saylor being free, I think it's my best bet. I have a list of all of the courses I plan to take at Saylor and was just wondering if anyone here had experience with any of these courses. If so, could you rate them from least to most difficult? Of course this will vary from person to person, but I was curious if there was any sort of consensus on this. I'd like to test out of the easiest courses first. I've never been interested in or done particularly well in math, so naturally I'm expecting math to be most difficult for me.

The list is as follows

College Algebra
Statistics
Intro to Comparative Politics
Environmental Ethics
Intro to Business
Intro to Western Political Thought
Intro to Biology

Also, if a course is recommended for ACE and not listed as one of the credit direct transfer credits to TESU, does that automatically mean they will not accept credit from that course?

Thanks for any and all input

I don't have any experience with Saylor yet, but keep in mind while Saylor is free, there is a $25 fee for taking the proctored final. Also, I recommend you do the free cpcu ethics course from the institutes instead of the Saylor ethics course.

In case you haven't seen it yet, here's a plan I built listing all the known options for each class in the psych major for TESU.

Add in the general ed and free elective requirements, and you have a degree Smile

Saylor allows you to arrange for a local proctor (like through your library) so it can be 100% free. You don't HAVE TO use their $25 proctoring, it's just an option if you'd like.

Thanks so much for your reply! What exactly is the Instutes? I haven’t heard of that website.

Oh, believe me I have your plan saved to my favorites!! SmileThanks so much for putting it together! I have about 45 credits from traditional college, still need a few electives, but I will definitely be following your plan for the core requirements.

Wow, I did not know that! That’s awesome! I will definitely look into that!!

Has anyone here tried Saylor’s western political thought exam? How was it? I am planning on taking it. But if it is too time consuming, I do not want to.

I took the Saylor DCE for Microeconomics and Psychology at a local library with an in-person proctor. Though I found both surprisingly challenging, I thought the Microeconomics exam was the harder of the two.

I took the Saylor Environmental Ethics course. It was before it was ACE recommended so I used it to study for the Env Ethics TECEP. The material was pretty rough sledding with quite a few broken links, and a mishmash of sources that didn't necessarily fit together well. That said I passed the TECEP, so it worked. In fact, with the price of the TECEP down to $75, I'd be tempted to take that instead. You can use it to extend enrollment at TESU, plus you get real college credit instead of ACE credit...could be handy if you ever needed to transfer it elsewhere. You could also do one, then fall back on the other if you didn't pass the first.

If it were me, I would use Khan Academy to study for College Algebra and Statistics (free), and then come and take the Saylor exams (which are not free, at $25 each).  I wish Khan had some ACE recommended courses, that would be awesome.
