How Do People Get Credit For Extension Courses?
#1
Cooking Class <-- Course in question. How, or can you even, get credit for these extension courses? I wanted to take a science/cooking course for a free elective.

I thought you were talking about an extension school of a university. If that were the case, it would need to be a for-credit class. With edX and Coursera, the majority of the courses are not worth college credits. Some colleges have an agreement to award credits for a few courses; but, other than that, you cannot receive college credits for these courses since they are neither ACE nor NCCRS-approved. However, you can use the knowledge you've gained to pass a CBE (credit-by-exam) or complete a PLA (prior learning assessment).

Thank you! I didn't realize there was a difference. I don't think I will be trying a PLA, I don't like the risk of it not being rejected after writing 10-25 pages and paying $250. I can take so many edX for free in my own time. I really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction, I was able to do a lot of valuable research last night.

I took that class when it first came out- just an fyi, it's very very sciency but excellent in every way. The topics and presenters are world class.

I would only recommend getting credit for these type of courses from TESU. For example, as they are $379/12 credits PLA and $215/6 subsequent credits.
The details are here for TESU: pla tuition ; However; if your degree is going to be coming from COSC, they charge too much.
If I recall correctly, it's $320-$400/course PLA. I rather use that money on courses from ACE providers such as Penn Foster Saylor/Shmoop/Straighterline.
