Second Capstone Required for Second Degree? (BACS now BA Math)

Want to make sure I understand TESU's requirements before making a decision on whether to pursue my second degree at the school.

I graduated last year with a BA in CS, and took the LIB 4950 Capstone with a Computer Science research project and Major Field Test.  Now I am considering getting a BA in Mathematics as well.

I just had my new academic evaluation finalized for the Math degree and my Capstone requirement went from being fulfilled to being incomplete.  TESU also recently changed some subjects within LIB 4950 to 4970 for Natural Science, Math and Computer Science courses but I'm not sure if that's the reason I didn't get credit.  In any event, the Capstone I completed last year would have been 4970 if it was done this year.

Do I still need to complete the Capstone again even if my two degrees are close enough they belong in the same Capstone "grouping" (i.e., in the new 4970 class)?  I was told to speak with an advisor, but the earliest appointment is about a week away.  Timing is kind of important right now, so I figured you guys would have a quicker answer.

If I am not mistaken, every bachelor's degree requires its own capstone related to your major. It can't be transferred from one program to another.

There used to be only one liberal arts capstone which was the case for many years. Some changes were discussed here though the course number didn't change:

They haven't updated their website to show the new 4070 liberal arts capstone for the math degree as it still shows 4050

So you still need only one capstone for a BA in Math & CS but 2 different ones for a BA in Psychology and Math/CS.

In your case, it looks like you need 2 if your degree plan says that 4070 is required.  You could try to email advising for a quicker answer.  You could try to get an exception for the requirement which might work if it recently went into effect. Otherwise, you're SOL.

So I just called them and confirmed I would have to do another capstone.  I asked them "even if my previous capstone was a LIB 4970 would I still have to complete it" and they said yes.  Any new degree program requires its own new capstone.  In that event, I am not likely to pursue the second degree.

I thought that for the Math major, you had to take at least two courses with TESU. So would this have been three courses instead of two, with the extra capstone included? Or how many courses was it?

I'm not sure about that rule, we didn't discuss it specifically.  I was 5 classes away from the degree, now 6 with the capstone.

Three things that I want to point out and confirm, you obtained the BA CS degree and now going for a BA Math degree. Usually, I recommend doing the double major instead of the second degree. What is your plan for residency purposes on the second degree? Residency waiver, are you going for the residency waiver a second time, or are you doing the flat rate for the remaining classes? Did they say you've max the transfer of credit into the BA Math?

I didn't mean a rule  I mean you need Calculus 3 and enough UL courses to meet the requirement for BA in Math.  These are hard to get via alt credit.

Yeah, the double major option would have been better.  Given my circumstances during the BACS, I was only looking for a Computer Science degree at the time and wanted to get it as quickly as possible.  The idea of a Math major only came up after I graduated.

Now that I know more about the Capstone requirement, I'm probably not going to get the second degree.  My plan would have been another waiver.  And they didn't say anything about maxing transfer credit for the BA Math.
