Hi everyone, I have been thinking about getting my BLS degree for a while but I'm pretty confused regarding the possibilities. I was checking some posts in here and saw that someone was talking about getting biology and mathematics minors and that would make my decision really easy. Is this possible? How can I approach it? Sorry if this is too broad to answer, feel free to tell me to contact the university directly if that's the best way to go!

Basically, for the BLS, you can transfer in any minor that they have available to Your Pace and non Your Pace students. The difference is, making sure all the classes you need are either transferred in, or taken through Your Pace classes. If you're looking at Biology, Math, or whatever else, you need to review their requirements for the minor, take those classes elsewhere if it's not on the Your Pace platform and transfer them in. Once all the minor requirements are complete, and you've got the BLS residency requirements done, you're good to go. You won't find the courses available in YourPace so you would need to take them from another college and transfer them in. You won't find all of the courses as ACE or CLEP either. I would select one of the minors that is offered in YourPace unless you have already completed the required courses for bio or math elsewhere.

Bio is difficult. None of the courses are available via Yourpace. The other requirements can be easily completed elsewhere but you need to transfer in a Genetics course. http://catalog.umpi.edu/preview_program....turnto=260
Similar to Bio, Math maybe has one course available via Yourpace (not sure if Calculus 1 is actually available). The issue with Mathematics is MAT 251 Foundations of Mathematics. The UMPI transfer database only shows 5 previous transfer equivalencies with 3 of them being within the Umaine system. It does seem like a course you could substitute easily, but I don't know the specifics. On paper, it looks almost impossible. http://catalog.umpi.edu/preview_program....turnto=260 IMO, the "easiest" transferable STEM minors are the Chemistry and Physical Science Minors. Chemistry: Gen Chem 1&2, OChem 1&2, upper level Chemistry elective. http://catalog.umpi.edu/preview_program....turnto=260 Physical Science: Gen Chem 1&2, Ochem 1, Physics 1&2 http://catalog.umpi.edu/preview_program....turnto=260 If you are starting from scratch, none of these are viable via yourpace.

I would love to know where I can check the transfer database.

For what I have seen, there's one main course that is quite challenging to get anywhere else (Foundations of mathematics). Can I get that course at UMPI and pay per credit? I think that might be the best option.

I don't think the course is available at UMPI at all...I checked Summer and Fall.
https://www.umpi.edu/academics/course-re...e=&endDate= If you're that fixated on math, maybe consider a TESU degree.

If you can transfer all the credits into the Biology and/or Math, that would be ideal. Otherwise, I think they've got the classes, but it's not on the Your Pace platform yet. Here are the two minors you're referring to and their requirements for each. For the BLS, you have 60 elective credits to use, you can do both of these if you wanted.
