Hey all,

Not that I want to be a programmer. But I would just like to learn more about programming, software, etc.

I think that the UofP BCS could be a good affordable option. Since I already have a Bachelor's degree I would only have to take 10 classes from what I understand and at $160 per course, that would only cost me $1600 for another degree.

Does any have a list of which 10 courses I would need to take specific to the program?

Alternatively are there other cheaper ways to add programming knowledge via coursera, udemy, etc?

There are 23 courses in the major, so it would depend on what you've taken (or will take) elsewhere:

https://catalog.uopeople.edu/ug_term1_it...ence-bs-cs

My experience with UoP is that it is very much self-teaching based on the readings/materials they provide. With my courses, what they provide has been sufficient, but I have read CS majors saying it's helpful to find tutorials outside the curriculum if you really want to understand, at least for some of the classes. Based on that, I would suggest the Coursera, Saylor, etc route first and then doing the UoP program if you're enjoying yourself.

I took a fun intro to programming course via ASU. If you just want to take it and not transcript it, it's $25. (If you transcript, it's $425.)

EDIT: I forgot to mention, all undergrad students *must* take Online Education Strategies in their first term. A previous degree does not exempt you from this requirement. Yes, a lot of the info is stuff you already know, but they also spend a substantial amount of time on UoPeople policies and procedures, so it's not a waste. Even I, wise and esteemed Senior Member of DegreeForum.net, learned a few things.

Last time I checked, all courses in CS but two can be transfered (Online Education Strategies and Comparative Programming Languages). However, you need to take 10 courses at the University.
This is a degree plan I did when I was starting: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...AvSSggScx/
I didn't complete the General Education and Electives section, but the major courses are there. They added a course, Intro to CS, which is not in that plan, but the transfer are probably still accurate.

As for programming, I'd recommend Angela Yu's courses on Udemy (Python and Web developmet), as well as freecodecamp.org.

is that the 100 days course ?

as for learning to program
https://cs50.harvard.edu/x/

that is a great course, (but the assignments can be difficult)
it covers C, a little web dev with python and a little sql

and you can get ACE credit

I don't know how much it is, but its fairly inexpensive

For those who already have a degree and want a CS degree for personal enrichment, UoPeople is the best option imo. It is definitely the cheapest but not the fastest. You have to take the obligatory intro to online college class no matter what, and the max you can take for any session is 2 classes with limited flexibility and course selection. But how can anyone complain when it's free or at most $160/course?

you could also look into NCCRS-approved courses, which are more affordable. They can definitely help you learn more about programming.
