Harvard Extension Data Science, Digital Media Design ALMs Renamed to Include AI

New for 2026-27, Harvard Extension School has renamed and repositioned two Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) programs. Each is largely online with one required three-week course on campus:

• Data Science and Artificial Intelligence field of study replaces Data Science, and
  
• Digital Media Design and Creative AI field of study replaces Digital Media Design.
  

Most of the following aren’t new, but all are related to the foregoing.

Graduate certificates, typically four graduate courses and stackable toward a related ALM, now include: 

• Artificial Intelligence
  
• Algorithms and Computer Architecture
  
• Creative AI and Digital Experience Design
  
• Generative Media and Creative AI
  
• Cybersecurity Engineering and Ethical Hacking (offered in addition to a separate grad cert in Cybersecurity)
  

Microcertificates, typically two graduate courses and stackable toward a related graduate certificate and/or ALM, now include:

• AI in Business
  
• AI in Marketing
  
• Creative AI Foundations
  
• Data Modeling and Ethics
  
• Geographic Information Systems
  
• UX/UI Design
