I've been engaging with education boards for about 20+ years now. And in that time, I've learned that when (most) people decide a school is bad or doing something nefarious (even with little or no proof at all), no amount of factual information to the contrary will change their minds, especially not the minds of doom addicts and carnival barkers.

I remember when schools like Agora, United Medical Institute, and Nexford University were all ASIC accredited and received absolute crap from board goers (at other boards) up until the very days that each got DEAC accredited. Then, all of a sudden, once DEAC accredited, the same people declared the schools were just fine and they "always knew they were legit!" Heh, yeah, sure ya did! Tongue

I have been critical of lots of schools. But I've always been willing to change my opinion when new developments come. That hasn't happened often for me, but it has happened.

I don't think EIU is perfect, but it's not debatable that they have made strong efforts to improve and be scrutinized by 3rd party authorities. I don't know about others, but personally if I were running a scam, I wouldn't get registered with the education department of the national government in my home country, and then open myself up to the watch of any kind of accreditor. I would know better that I was setting myself up to get exposed and brought down.

It takes time to reach the ultimate level of recognition and I've seen other legitimate schools do way less than EIU is doing on the road to that recognition. I don't know if EIU's situation will wind up reaching the level the other schools I mentioned have, but if they continue to go in this direction, not get greedy and make bad partnerships just for the money, and keep their prices reasonable, they can get there too. I've seen it happen enough times now that I know it's possible.

Since it seems that length of the explanation is more important than quality, the short explanation is:

France has a different higher education structure than the US. This is a legal degree in France and equivalent to an bachelors degree in the US. This is why we have independent foreign evaluators. Trying to find a direct comparison in the US is impossible because they are different systems.

You do make a great point; there was discussion ad nauseam. Appreciate and respect your thought process, input, and commentary style.

To put into context, there were just a few individuals on this forum who made several serious and erroneous claims this year.
Such serious allegations were fact-checked and determined to be incorrect. While opinions are protected, when there are statements presented as factual claims, which are then proven to be false, those false accusations then fall under slanderous, libelous, erroneous, and defamatory, potentially damaging statements.

That does create a need for some quality research and clarification. Funnily, most recently, 1 more member quoted someone's post from 4+ years ago, and doesn't seem to have cared for any of the relevant details that actually matter.

Translation into plain English: When just a few people, even if it's literally two people, constantly describe some "thing" as a diploma mill, racket, scam, illegal, worthless, junk, and make flawed arguments that just because a distance learning centre is not a public université in France, that it is not functioning as a private university, or that the centre has no rights to confer awards, and then it turns out that all of those statements are proven to be wrong and that the school in question is actually doing a great job and progressing, the response is not an argument; it's simply uncovering the truth.

However, there is the argument that "a man convinced against his will, is of the same opinion stiill." - In a letter from a "T.B." to the editor of The Belfast Mercury in 1786.

Some delightful clicking and scrolling as I read this thread.

Most entertaining click: The folks at the other place have discussed this one more than once.

Someone made mention of Abide University & Institute. was not familiar with Abide University & Institute.

Abide University & Institute may very well serve as a model for future iterations of S A S - the Chief's University.

I want to talk about some new developments. I have been made aware of some more successful foreign credential evaluations both past and recent. That's good news. However...

... I started looking into the owner of the school and it's a colorful ride. Some accredited degrees, some that really really aren't, some claims of personal prestige that may or may not be true at all, and a not-so-wonderful reputation from past ventures.

I guess if one were considering this school, it would be a question of how much worry you would have about the owner's history possibly having an effect on the perception of the degree you earn. Maybe it's nothing, but maybe it's a ticking timebomb.

EIU have launched new programs where you stack microcredentials. Earn 36 and you get a Doctor of Professional Practice degree. Who wants to guinea pig this and see if they can get a favorable US/Foreign evaluation?

Nice teaser, but do you have a link with more information? For example, what's the estimated timeline for completion? What are the fees?

I have doubts that their non-business degrees will garner positive foreign credential evaluations. I have a feeling that their business degrees pass because of the ACBSP accreditation.

I am tempted to try and earn one of these DProfs and see if I can get an IEE equivalency report. I have to get out from under a large monthly payment I have next month before I can commit any money toward this.

I got curious and looked on LinkedIn for the EIU page and started combing through alumni to see who (if anyone) was listing EIU credentials and also had good positions with big-brand organizations. I was surprised there were actually quite a few. Several people who'd gone to good schools for undergrad and/or grad school also had an EIU doctorate on top.
