Oklahoma State University DHA Experiences
#1
Hello forum members,

I was accepted into the Doctor of Healthcare Administration at OK State. I transferred in enough credits that the program will require me to complete only 45 credits. It is relatively affordable when you compare it to other DBAs and DHAs online.

The program seems great and relevant to me. I have acquired much knowledge on the program from different sources. However, I wanted to ask all of you very knowledgeable people if anyone had any direct or indirect experience with the program. Any information or opinions you guys could provide would be much appreciated.

Thanks and all the best,
swlearner71

Hello my friend,

If I move forward with the program, I will try to do so. However, I am debating between a Phd as well.

I will say that I am surprised that no one has pursued it. Where I am from, in the south, OK State is seen as a generally respectable institution. More so especially than some other online doctorate offerings that are available. At 364 per online credit hour, it seems like a fantastic deal. They seem to be generous with their credit transfer as well. My degree was only slightly related, and I got 18 credits. I imagine someone with an MBA or MHA may get close to the 30 credit max and end up paying around 12k in tuition.

It is a great deal, but many of us ended up going with VUL because VUL is only 12 months away, and the VUL DHA program came before this one. Most of us paid 15k for the degree, which at the time offered us an accelerated nationally accredited doctoral degree, but OSU DHA has regional accreditation. I read good things on Reddit about the program. I would have preferred looking back and going here, but I can't do anything now.

The VUL program seems like a great deal if national accreditation meets your goals, which for most people it could. The 12 month time frame is also very hard to beat.

At OSU, the only way 12 months would work is if you transferred in all 30 credits, which may not be common. With the 45 credits, the soonest I could maybe finish would be in 1.5 years, assuming I take a full course load of 2 classes each 8 week term. I do not personally want to work at that pace, however. I will probably end up taking longer than 2 years.

Congrats on your DHA success!

I'm really interested in this program too, as I may be returning to the healthcare industry in the next year. What masters degree did you have that allowed you to transfer in partial credits?

All of my masters degrees are Tech related, but one has a fair amount of stats, so I'm wondering if they would let me transfer in any credits.
MS, Data Science, Eastern University
ALM, Information Technology, Harvard University
AB, Government, Georgetown University

In Progress: MS, Computer Science, Georgia Institute of Technology (Projected Completion 2027)

My masters is in social work. I looked over my transcripts and thought maybe they'd give me like 12 transfer credits if I was lucky. Apparently they were more flexible than I thought. I know someone else got 18 from a counseling degree which I feel was far away from being related to the electives.

Here are the electives that can be covered by transfer credits. If you have classes that are somewhat related, you may have them covered. It is my personal feeling that they try to give all students applying with a masters some credits towards the program. The classes I transferred in were nowhere near a one-to-one to the ones I got credit for. I couldn't tell you which class applied to what, lol.

I was just accepted again to this program. In my opinion, it is one of the better reputation programs out there, but the gold standard is MUSC DHA, but that school is a bit rough in terms of some of the expected traveling and workload. VUL is a great quick option, but the career path for some of the graduates on LinkedIn does not seem as vibrant as those people who went to OSU or certain other schools.

I guess at the end of the day a cheap DHA degree gets the job done.
