Sam Houston State University (SHSU) now offers their
Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS) in Criminal Justice ina competency-based education format, joining existing on-campus and semester-based online formats.
The competency-based format has
its own per-credit tuition lower than SHSU’s usual tuition: 178 per semester hour for Texas residents, 606 for nonresidents.

Glad to see more CBE platforms emerging, however I'm not happy to see that they don't reflect the same subscription service/flat fee that institutions like UMPI and WGU offer. Happy, but sad

I am happy that CBE priced per credit is also an option. Not everyone has the clear blocks of time and energy or the prior knowledge of a given subject to grind out the large number of credits per term that makes CBE priced per term an extreme couponing deal for some of us. Yet whether it’s priced per-credit or per-term, CBE has real advantages over most online courses in self-pacing and mastery-based learning. There are some subjects I would definitely rather study, or some life situations in which I’d rather study anything, at a reasonable per-credit rate.
