Just back from COSC ceremony
#1
Hi everyone! First of all, I want to apologize for being relatively absent the past few weeks. As many of you know, I travel for business and May was crazy! I wrapped up several solid weeks of travel to come back for a few days and head out to Connecticut for the graduation. So... hopefully no more travel for at least a few months Smile

Now to the COSC graduation. First of all, I don't live in CT and had never been to the COSC building. They are smack dab in the middle of CCSU, Central Connecticut State University. They are just one of the many buildings on campus. COSC has a beautiful red brick building with an oak tree planted right at the entry way. The ceremony was held at the CCSU Welte auditorium, so I didn't actually get to go in the COSC building, but took pictures in front of it.

Before the graduation, there was an optional brunch, which my husband and I attended. I am very glad that we did as it gave me a chance to speak to other graduates. I learned interesting details about COSC students that I couldn't wait to come back to the board and share Wink I was not surprised that the people I was talking to didn't mention CLEP. I know that even at the "Big 3," most people don't test like we do. What was the big shocker was that my fellow grads chose COSC because of the residency requirement. Of all the people sitting at the brunch table, the person who had the lowest number of credits had 160. One of the graduates had even been studying at Yale for a while, but kept switching majors and spending time and money. I didn't have the heart to tell anyone that the majority of my degree took under a year to complete.... these folks were just as proud and happy to get their COSC degree as I was, so I didn't want to tell them how much time and money that I'd saved.

After the brunch, we went to get our caps/gowns and lined up in assigned areas. There were just over 500 people in my graduating class with 181 present at the ceremony. COSC put on a well organized show with relatively few issues and a great commencement speech. I was inspired and motivated and will probably remember the theme of the speech for the rest of my life.

The speaker talked about a miner in Utah who had spent his life's time and fortune trying to find silver in a mine that he had bought. After his fortune and health were almost gone, he sold his land to a competitor for pennies on the dollar. The competitor began mining and after digging only 27 feet struck the motherlode. Anyhow... I thought it was cool enough to share with you guys here and think it's a great metaphor for how we need to work to get our degree done and can't stop short of reaching our goal.

So glad I went to the graduation and thanks again to everyone for your support here.

P.S. For those of you who have been asking about my MBA - I have an interview scheduled with the head of the program in a couple of weeks. I will let you know as soon as I find out. (Please send positive energy/prayers my way!!)
