Since CLEP is not weighted in your GPA you're getting caught up in the wrong question. The question is concerning ALL pass/fail credit.
The GPA criteria of pass fail credits is up to an individual school.
For instance, medical schools DO have opinions about pass/fail credits. There are professional programs that are very clear and specific to that field. You didn't say what field- but even if you did- advice regarding admissions amounts to.....well, exactly what you paid for it. Zero.
So for maybe 5% of the grad applicant pool, you'll need to understand the criteria and be sure to follow inside that criteria. For the other 95% of the world, it doesn't matter. This board is full of grad school students, many of which have earned 50-100 % of their degree through pass/fail credit. Myself included.
