dmjacobsen Wrote:If the issue is pushed, I would say that -- regardless of the fine print -- Sophia doesn't have a leg to stand on, because their registration process allows the user to input the code multiple times. In fact, the code is AUTOMATICALLY applied to ALL courses in your basket, so you actually don't even have an option to pay for the other courses. Since you have to be logged in to a registered account in order to register for a class and use the code, Sophia should be able to prevent multiple uses of that code. This is an easy countermeasure to implement, and it appears that Sophia has intentionally chosen to allow the code to operate in this manner.
The only way that I could see Sophia having a legitimate case would be if a user created multiple accounts in order to circumvent the limitation.
Additionally, since Sophia doesn't have any billing information on file, the best they can do is bill you for it, which you have the option to ignore. It's also not a creditor/debtor type of relationship, so they can't lawfully hit your credit report with it.
Disclaimer: I'm not an attorney, so the above information is essentially useless.
I am not an attorney, but I deal with contracts for a living and am very familiar with contract law and I disagree. In my opinion and understanding of contract law, they clearly state that only one course is allowed and subsequent classes will be billed at prevailing rate. Since this is offered as a contest, this is a unilateral contract. Sophia's contest constituted a unilateral offer. Your perfomance (signing up and taking the course is acceptance of the contract. You are bound as you have now benefited to their service. The contract comes with a clause that kicks in during certain events, this event being taking more than one course.
I highly doubt Sophia would want to risk this kind of bad publicity, so I doubt they would pursue legal action. But if they do, seek the advice of a professional lawyer.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.
Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.
Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.
Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.
Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.
