I believe you're from my area? Based on your description I think I know the college that your daughter is attending. If so, I've had several comical advisory sessions there myself. I fulfilled STA 2023 with SL Business Statistics on an ACE transcript. At the time SL did not offer the introductory course or I would have gone that route.
Highlighting on placement vs. CLEP. When I earned my AA degree at Coastline my placement scores met the math requirement for the degree. It was good news at the time; however, when I transferred to another school to study nursing I was not allowed to take Anatomy & Physiology because Intermediate Algebra is a prereq. I had nothing on my transcript to indicate math proficiency, so the course was closed to me until I could meet the math requirement. I met the requirement by taking another placement test. It could have gone bad. The irony is that despite having earned a nursing degree from this school if I went to an advisor today and said that I wanted to take A&P they would tell me that I do not qualify. My placement scores expired about the time I finished all my nursing prereqs. If I had just taken the College Algebra CLEP in 2003 when I started the first AA, the math box would have been forever checked.
