A bit of a Dilemma ..and MBA at the Big 3

jsd Wrote:I'm torn here between the fallacy of "other's do it therefore it's okay" and the equal fallacy of "the law says it's wrong so therefore it's wrong."

there's a lot of grey area between both, especially when it comes to financial obligations, which after 10 years or so... aren't even legal financial obligations anymore in many situations. Does that make it morally acceptable? probably not. Does that make it pragmatic... probably. Would I feel okay with it, personally? i doubt it.

But I don't do a lot of things that other folks feel okay doing, and I do engage with a lot of things that others probably don't feel okay with doing. I'm not sure how to navigate this here, on a public forum where I don't expect many clones of myself.

These aren't legal issues; they are ethical issues. A lot of unethical actions are not against the law. Some things that are against the law aren't unethical. I get the pragmatism of not paying a debt that has no effect on you. If you can't get your transcripts and it's making you choose between lying and limiting your options, then the debt does have an effect on you.
