Based on recommendations here, I chose Dr. Steve Ryan for my mentor. I also chose online over self-guided because the forums count as 23%, which helps your grade since the forum grade seemed to be based mostly on mere completion (as long as you do what he says).
I was not happy with Dr. Ryan as a professor. He was a generous grader - I scored 99.7% in the course - but I almost wish he had been harsher on the grading and had actually given me constructive feedback. Most of the time, I felt like his responses to my assignments were a generic paragraph he had cut and pasted and perhaps tweaked slightly. When I sent him questions, he was slow to respond and often missed some of my questions. The questions he did answer were often addressed vaguely or incompletely. I ultimately obtained more guidance and clarification on assignments from two friends who had other capstone professors than I did from my mentor. However, I do appreciate his lenient and prompt grading and suppose part of the reason he is so popular is his hands-off, encouraging approach (which does have its merits). I was just somewhat disappointed in his level of involvement.
One of my friends had Nina Haydel and seemed to enjoy her, and another friend had Bruce Arnold and was not happy with him at all (far, far too strict).
