TESU BSBA and ASBA completed - Advice for new degree seekers :)

TrailRunr Wrote:I disagree with the notion that the $2k residency fee slows you down. You don't have to pay the $2k until you graduate. Until then, you can take the courses/exams at whatever speed you and your budget can handle.

After you complete all the credits, save up for the waiver and graduation fees and pass one TECEP a year until you can get the $2k. Since you completed all of your courses, you have time to go get a job to earn the $2k.

Yes and no. I definitely agree with you on applying etc... until the point you mention getting a job. It sounds like a good plan -- and for most people it probably is.

However, for a full time homeschooling parent, or teen student, someone with a longterm/chronic health issue (and/or significant medical bills), or someone already working one or two jobs to just squeak by, saving up that amount of cash may be a HUGE mountain -- even with a year or two, or three, etc, it might be difficult.

On the other hand, the ability to take a yearly TECEP to remain enrolled is a huge plus in the scenario.

And then there are those who will benefit career-wise if they can just graduate. In those cases, although I highly *highly* suggest not going into debt, I would say a small subsidized school loan for those final TESU fees might be very helpful, especially if the student knows they will benefit more by graduating then by working a minimum wage job and trying to save up, and be able to do everything it takes to pay it back.
