I took 8 or so courses at EGCC, all business and accounting. I was a member of an AFL-CIO union at the time, so it didn’t cost me anything. My feelings were generally positive.
Dealing with folks to get set up in the program, deal with transcripts and equivalences, and registering for courses was very easy and straightforward.
I had mixed feelings about instructors. I had a couple who had hour-long telephone conversations with me about their courses, about my interest in becoming an accountant, etc. Most instructors were pretty responsive, responding to emails within 1 to 2 business days. I had one instructor who didn’t respond, didn’t grade things in timely manner, but you can run into that sort of thing anywhere.
The materials for the courses that I took were all integrated into the online materials (I think that is the case for all courses, but not sure/don’t rely on my memory of that), so no purchasing textbooks or other materials. The materials and technology were fair. (Sorry, not a computer/IT person and don’t have the vocabulary to really articulate my feelings). I have also taken online courses with GA Tech, University of the Cumberlands, and UMPI. EGCC’s were not as good as any of those other institutions. More bugs, more multiple choice questions with multiple right answers or no right answers, that sort of thing. Let’s also say that the questions don’t seem to get changed all that frequently and people take advantage of that fact, if you take my meaning.
I was super happy to get to take these courses for free. I did learn a lot from my classes at EGCC. To be perfectly honest with you, because of the content issues there were multiple occasions when I said to myself “I am glad this is free, glad I am not paying hundreds of dollars for these courses”.
