Darknigh7 is correct, when you take a class elsewhere, it doesn't affect the class you took at the previous institution. It doesn't matter if the class is the same one or transfers as the same thing, the GPA you have at one school doesn't get affected at another school. UMPI will use that for their external GPA, you'll have an internal GPA entirely from UMPI 30 credits for residency.
as ss20ts and I mentioned, the only way to get a better GPA from that previous institution is to retake the class, if you've taken those within the last 2-3 years, you decide to take it or not depending on your energy/money/time... anything over 5 or more years, I would forget it and concentrate on the greater goal of finishing the bachelors and moving to the masters.
Edit to Add: Some institutions have an academic forgiveness policy, ask them if they do or not, you can see if they can forgive your grades in 5 years. Problem is that the transcripts would still indicate so, but it would not be affecting your GPA, which is the main reason you want to ask and sort out...
