I know it's very old-fashioned of me, but I agree with what Bo Schembechler used to say back in the '60s. These are supposed to be student athletes, not minor league professionals. Their practice schedule, eleven or twelve games, and possibly a bowl game is plenty. They're supposed to be studying and working toward their degree. Bo never cared about a national championship, and always focused on winning the Big Ten.
I think college athletics, particularly football and basketball, have gotten way out of hand. In the end, does it really matter which school's football team is named the national champion? They should just forget about it and go back to the old style bowl games based on traditional division rivalries. Let people argue about who's number one, because they will anyway.
