Hi everyone,
I just started my MBA at Hellenic American University (HAU) this June and wanted to share a bit about my experience so far—for anyone considering the program or just curious how it compares to other options out there.
Background:
I graduated from the University of Maine at Presque Isle (UMPI) with both my BA and MA in Organizational Leadership. I was looking to keep the momentum going without breaking the bank, and HAU stood out because of the value. The total cost—$3,000 for a regionally accredited MBA—is hard to beat.
Affordability & Accreditation:
Let’s be clear—this is not a flashy, brand-name program. You won’t see it ranked on major MBA lists, and if you’re aiming for executive roles at Fortune 500 companies, especially those that require AACSB or ACBSP-accredited degrees, this likely won’t be the right tool for that ladder. But if you’re a working professional looking to deepen your business acumen, enhance your credentials, or pivot your career, this is a solid, affordable route. Worth noting: HAU is accredited by NECHE—the same regional accreditor that oversees schools like Harvard and MIT. So yes, it's legitimate.
Academic Experience So Far:
I'm taking BUS511 – The Business Landscape right now, and the coursework is on par with other graduate-level classes I've taken. Professors are responsive, and the small class sizes are a bonus. I’ve also registered for BUS526 – Marketing Management in the next term.
Course Waiver Process:
I submitted a waiver request for BUS501 – Functional Skills Integration based on a similar grad course I completed at UMPI (OLS540 – Organizational Theory and Behavior). The process is manual and takes time—so if you plan to request waivers, get ahead of it early. That said, they seem open to recognizing relevant prior coursework.
Administrative Side:
This is where you’ll notice it’s a smaller operation. Things like registration, waiver processing, or syllabus access can be slow. Communication sometimes takes a follow-up or two. But once you get in touch with the right people (Dean Martin has been especially helpful), they are supportive and committed to your success. Just don’t expect a slick student portal or a polished onboarding system.
Overall Impressions:
Yes, you’ll probably get a few “What school is that?” reactions when you list it on your résumé or LinkedIn. But that doesn’t mean the learning isn’t worthwhile. You get out what you put in. I’m already seeing connections between the coursework and my day-to-day in the professional world.
Happy to answer any questions or compare notes with other students currently in the program. And if you're on the fence—feel free to reach out!
Take care!
