The Education Specialist "degree" has one purpose only: to give teachers a place to earn credits for salary purposes.
As for the American College of Education, it is for-profit. But they seem to know what they're doing, their prices are low, and my interactions with their officials have been very professional and friendly. If I was in need of a professional doctorate in education, for example, I would seriously consider them.
