I have never taken a Clep but I will give you my understanding of them.
If I understand correctly from what has been posted here and on other sites to pass a CLEP you only need to get a little more then half the question correct to pass. ( Someone please correct this if I am wrong).
CLEP's are awarded on a pass/fail basis at most colleges ( I have never read of any who give grades for cleps but I suppose it is possible) so with cleps the idea is to pass. This means you just need to learn enough to pass , you do not need to ace the exam.
ON their website CLEP tells you what topics will be on the tests and in what percentages. So if you review that it might give you a better idea of what is expected for each exam.

I believe organizations like IC use this information to develop their study aides.
I would think a review of the tests in question on the feedback section of IC would give you answers to use IC alone or to supplement it with additional resources.
