For the record, I'm a liberal. Personal responsibility, government intervention when needed, pro-choice, equal rights for all including sexual preference, free markets with regulation, strong military, and the right to firearms with room for gun control. I voted for Obama and am quite happy with several of the ideas on the table right now. Health care, federal funding for embyonic stem cell research, phased withdrawl from Iraq, etc... I wouldn't call myself a Democrat, I just tend to vote more that way. I vote from my values though.
I don't think there is anything evil about any of the qualities you listed dc67. Thats why I love this country. We disagree about some fundamental issues, but we still both love the hell out of this country.
