Big 3: Nicest Sounding Name?

This is pretty much what I have been trying to say the entire time, good work.

As for the New York bashing that came from me going completely off topic after reading the SNL comments and the Excelsior explanations. As for 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina those were national tragedies. The attacks were not a personal shot at NYC but America as a whole. Those are beyond the scope of this thread.

I visited some of my wife's family in "upstate" New York and while I agree it was rural you can't deny that NY is a blue state through and through. I couldn't order sweet tea in any of the restaurants but that's a personal complaint. Maybe that is where my dislike for NY comes in. Second digression: what the heck is "upstate" anyway? In my experience that means any place that isn't NYC. Is that true? No one ever says upstate California or upstate Florida. Weird. I did get the opportunity to meet some New York rednecks. Ever met a redneck with a New York accent? Hard not to smile, lol!

I grew up in Texas, the greatest nation on earth, so I'm inclined to not like any state. Don't take it personally.

Texas is indeed the greatest "nation" in the country. Have family in Houston. Upstate is a general term for those trying to define separation from NYC. Those of us in "Upstate" use other descriptions such as Northern NY, Central NY, or Western NY, and downstate. Often when I travel I find it necessary to explain that I am not from NYC, hence "Upstate". The term isn't needed in any other state. If you were from Florida, no one is going to automatically assume you are from Miami. As far as the state being blue through and through, that is just not the case. NYC is blue. Albany is 1/2 blue, and the rest of the state, in my view, leans red.

I understand the gripe with sweet tea. When I moved south, I wasn't particularly pleased with the fact that there were no Itailian restaurants. Despite that, I still love the south.

Now back to the point of the thread. Thomas Edison is a fine sounding name. I can't find fault with Charter Oak either. Excelsior sounds like a bad tasting medicine. Yale sounds like a drunk slurring his words while ordering another beer. All sound legit to me, and that was my point. Regardless of the name, I picked the school that best met my needs.

On an aside, I'm sure you'll be pleased to know Thoms Edison is 1 hour away from that bastion of liberal thinking that you expressed so much love for. Excelsior is 3 hours from NYC.
