Many Saylor courses expiring April 30th 2025
#1
Saylor continues to struggle to maintain its Direct Credit catalog of ACE-reviewed courses. Long-time DegreeForum members may recall the issue recurring every few years, as Saylor can't seem to muster the resources to renew its ACE recommendations on schedule.
Currently, over 70% of the catalog is set to expire on April 30th of this year - just over a month from now. Saylor already announced that nine courses (20% of the catalog) will not be renewed, and they expect gaps even on courses that do end up passing review
Quote:Note: nine courses expiring in April 2025 will not be renewed: BUS202, BUS305, CS105, POLSC201, POLCS221, PHYS101, PHYS102, MA121, MA005. Plan to complete these courses before April 30th. To access all three allowed exam attempts before that date, you must make your first attempt no later than April 2nd. We will seek renewal for other courses expiring in April, but (assuming successful renewal), there may be a period after April for which exams are not available for expiring courses.
There are some key courses in the list, though alternatives exist. It's disappointing that Saylor still can't get a handle on its ACE portfolio, yet is forging ahead with the MBA program. I wonder where their priorities are long-term.
If you have any Saylor courses on your to-do list, make sure to complete any impacted ones before 04/30/2025.

Most of the Saylor classes that aren't getting extended or renewed are classes that can be completed elsewhere...

They just launched a Masters in Marketing and have two more Masters coming soon. One is Management and the other is Entrepreneurship and innovation. But it is still restricted to individuals living in the state of Florida for the duration of the program. For international students, the graduate programs are currently available in all countries except Iran, Syria and North Korea. All applicants must provide a valid ID to verify residency at the time of enrollment.

It seems that is their current focus. If it remains free/$5 per test and opens up beyond Florida, it might be a great option for people who just like to study but dont necessarily need the degree. Hehe.

If a course expires (but did offer credits previously) does it mean it is no longer recognised as having credits?

For example, on Saylor, there are direct credit courses due to expire in 2027; does this mean that if I complete a course now (and achieve credit) those credits no longer carry over after 2027?

No. Your credits are recommended for credit by ACE as long as you take the class before it expires. If you take it after expiration, it is not eligible for ACE credit recommendation.

In essence, in a somewhat very short answer... If the course was ACE recommended for credit and you took the class, then it will remain on your Credly. If you took it for credit, but it didn't have ACE recommendation, then it would reflect that. It wont matter if they aren't recommended anymore after you have the credit for it already...

Thank you all.

New to acquiring credits.

Interested to gather what I can and attempt to transfer for a cheap degree (looking to collect a few credentials for fun but need to juggle finances and full time work).

IMHO, Saylor's only "unique" offering was 2 UL business courses BUS202 and BUS303

BUS202, expires at end of this month

Unless, I missed good ones?

Over the years, they have had a lot of unique offering in social sciences etc (philosophy, political science, etc.). IDK how many are still ACE-recommended. $5 a course is pretty unique, too.

Bye bye for-credit intro physics and those fun poli sci courses. It was fun while it lasted!

(In commemoration of the ACE recommendation expirations, and also the fact that I seem to be one of the only people on the board who likes the Saylor course formats <3)
